Survivor contestant Eva Erickson, 25, reveals she missed fatal Brown shooting by minutes

Eva Erickson, a former contestant on the show Survivor, shared a frightening story about being near the mass shooting that occurred at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island on Saturday.

In a video shared on Instagram Stories Saturday, Erickson showed she was initially located in a section of campus that was locked down during the attack.

The contestant from Minnesota, who was the first openly autistic person to compete on the show, spoke more about what happened after she survived the dangerous attack that resulted in two deaths and nine injuries.

Erickson described how narrowly she avoided witnessing the shooting, explaining she had been in the same building as the shooter just a short time earlier.

Erickson, a student of engineering and thermal science, was a contestant on season 48 of the CBS show filmed in Fiji. She stated she had just left her lab in the same building when the shooting began.

Erickson, an engineering and thermal science student at an Ivy League university, jokingly said he was glad he didn’t get much work done today.

Erickson felt overwhelmed and unproductive, so she went to a quiet area of campus to regroup – a decision that may have saved her life.

Erickson explained he’d unexpectedly decided to hit the gym – something he rarely does in the afternoon. He added that he left the building just minutes before the shooting began.

Following the tragic event, Erickson noted that many students were going home for the holidays, seeking a sense of security and comfort.
