Rebel Wilson, Mandy Moore and Hollywood stars react in horror to Bondi Beach terror attack that left 12 dead

Hollywood is deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic terrorist attack at Bondi Beach in Sydney. The attack, which occurred during a Hanukkah celebration, resulted in the deaths of twelve people, including children.

Rebel Wilson, Mandy Moore, Maren Morris, and other stars used social media to express their outrage at the violence, offer support to the Jewish community, and grieve for those who died during what was meant to be a peaceful and celebratory time for families and faith.

A shooting happened Sunday evening near the Bondi Pavilion during a Chanukah celebration. Two gunmen with rifles opened fire at the festival, which was a family-friendly event for the Jewish holiday.

Officials in Australia have stated that the recent violence was a deliberate act of terrorism, causing widespread international condemnation and strong reactions from celebrities worldwide.

Sydney native Wilson was one of the first well-known people to respond, posting a picture of emergency crews at Bondi Beach as night fell.

I just heard the terrible news about what happened at Bondi Beach,” Wilson shared. “It’s a shocking tragedy, and something you just don’t expect in Australia. We don’t want gun violence or antisemitism here – it goes against everything we stand for. My thoughts are with everyone impacted by this awful event.

Moore expressed similar sadness, sharing news reports that confirmed officials had labeled the killings a terrorist attack.

She emphasized the timing of the shooting, noting it happened on the first night of Hanukkah and in a country with strong gun laws. She also expressed her support for Jewish people everywhere, saying her heart goes out to them.

Morris expressed her distress as more information came out about the Hanukkah event, reposting a message that highlighted the rising number of deaths.

The country singer expressed their sadness about the situation in Australia, writing ‘Horrible’ and adding a broken-heart emoji.

Model Amelia Gray Hamlin expressed her sympathy for the victims of the Bondi Beach shooting by sharing a graphic detailing the tragedy. The graphic reported that at least 10 people were killed and over 60 injured during the attack on a Hanukkah celebration in Sydney, Australia, and featured an image of a lit candle.

The message expressed sympathy and support for Australia, stating, ‘We will always remember those who were lost, and we stand with the Australian people.’

Kacey Musgraves focused her attention on acts of bravery that emerged amid the chaos. 

The Grammy-winning singer posted a video showing someone stopping a potential shooter by grabbing the gun from them, and simply called the person a ‘Hero’.

Around 6:40 PM on Sunday, witnesses say two men got out of a car on Campbell Parade and started shooting at people in the busy tourist area. Many people reported hearing over 30 gunshots, causing widespread panic.

Photos and video taken by a Daily Mail photographer reveal Naveed Akram, a 24-year-old man from Bonnyrigg, Sydney, firing a weapon from a bridge. He was later identified as one of the gunmen.

NSW Premier Chris Minns confirmed late Sunday that 12 people were killed in the attack. 

In addition to the fatality, 29 people were hurt, including two police officers with life-threatening injuries and a child. They were taken to hospitals throughout Sydney for treatment.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese strongly denounced the shooting as a hateful, antisemitic act and stated it is being investigated as terrorism.

Prime Minister Albanese condemned the incident as a deliberate attack on Jewish Australians, occurring on the first day of Hanukkah – a time meant for celebration and religious observance. He stated that targeting Jewish Australians is an attack on all Australians.

Police have confirmed that Akram, who was previously known to them and was on a terror watch list, was shot and is currently in custody receiving medical care. The other gunman was killed at the scene.

Following the incident, police searched Akram’s home in Bonnyrigg while onlookers gathered. Officers escorted at least three people out of the house at gunpoint.

Near the bridge where the shooting happened, investigators found concerning items, including a homemade bomb. Bomb disposal experts safely removed and transported the device in a secure vehicle.
