Okay, so I’m completely freaking out! Teddi Mellencamp is finally responding after her dad, John, just casually dropped this really worrying thing about her still fighting cancer. It was so blunt, and honestly, it scared a lot of us fans! I’m just so anxious for her and hoping she’s okay and that he didn’t mean it the way it sounded. I need updates, seriously!
Fans were worried after the 74-year-old musician said on The Joe Rogan Experience podcast on January 14th that his daughter was seriously ill.
He shared that Kyle Richards’ sister, Kim, is battling brain cancer and is currently in a lot of pain, stating, ‘It’s really not easy for her right now.’
The remarks quickly raised fears that Teddi’s condition had taken a sudden turn.

Honestly, I was spiraling too, but she just explained it all with Tamra and it’s SUCH a relief. It wasn’t about her dad having some new health issue, thank goodness! I was so worried, but she cleared it all up and now I can breathe again. Seriously, she’s the best at setting the record straight!
Teddi explained that when he used the word “suffering,” he was referring to her emotional state rather than any physical pain she might be experiencing.
Judge replied, ‘Instantly people thought, “Oh my God, cancer’s back.”‘
But Teddi was quick to shut down those fears, stressing that her condition has not worsened.
I’m just… holding my breath, you know? She said the scans are still clear – no cancer showing, which is amazing, but it’s so frustrating. They still consider her stage four, and she’s still on immunotherapy. Basically, it’s the same old story. She’s hoping to be feeling better by now, and honestly, so am I, but she just… doesn’t. It’s heartbreaking. I just want her to feel good.
Teddi went on to admit that the emotional weight of the past year is only now catching up with her.
She explained she hadn’t fully dealt with everything that happened around the time of her surgery, including her divorce from Edwin Arroyave and the unexpected emergency procedure. She also mentioned being unable to see her children while she recovered, and that therapy has been helping her work through the emotional impact of it all.
As a mom of three – Slate, Cruz, and little Dove – I went through a really tough time when I was diagnosed with melanoma back in 2022. It was definitely a shock, especially as I’m navigating life with my kids after my split from their dad, Edwin.
In April 2025, she shared that her illness had advanced to its final stage and spread to her lungs and brain.
Teddi has had 17 melanomas removed from her back, but unfortunately, doctors later found the cancer had already spread inside her body, even with those treatments.
This new development follows her announcement just three months ago that her cancer was no longer detectable. That news came after a challenging fight with the disease, where doctors initially gave her a fifty-fifty chance of surviving.
On Tuesday’s podcast, Teddi revealed that this year’s Super Bowl is a special day for her – it marks the anniversary of her cancer diagnosis. She also talked about how treatment has affected her physically and how she’s coping with those challenges.
I’m finding it difficult to move around and do things, and I’ve noticed I’m not as quick as I used to be, which is really upsetting. I just want to feel like my old self again.
She went on to explain that ongoing immunotherapy has continued to drain her energy.
She described a difficult struggle, saying, ‘I was truly fighting to survive.’ Now that things have settled down, she’s starting to feel afraid, confessing to the judge that she worries the cancer will return.
Teddi shared that she’s still working on feeling completely independent, explaining she hasn’t even taken a solo ride with Uber yet. She admitted she’s starting to fully realize and deal with everything she’s been through.
Still, she struck a hopeful note, saying, ‘Every day is a new day.’
