Rumors have been circulating for months within Melbourne’s social circles that two well-known women – wives of prominent figures – are reportedly not getting along.
Rumors have been circulating since May that artists Rozalia Russian and Sarah Lucas are no longer speaking to each other. While neither artist has confirmed or denied the reports, more and more signs suggest a rift between them.
The talk started when people noticed the pair seemed distant in a group photo with prominent members of the city – a quiet hint that they were having problems.
The drama intensified in August when Rozalia skipped the gender reveal party for Effie Kats’ baby, held at the French restaurant Maison Bâtard.
Maison Bâtard is owned by Sarah’s restaurateur husband Chris Lucas.
Things are getting more complicated: Rozalia, age 37, didn’t show up to Effie’s baby shower on Monday, which Sarah did attend. This has led to more rumors about a possible disagreement between the two women.
The baby shower was held at Society, a venue in Melbourne’s Collins Street that’s also owned by Chris Lucas.
The event was a small, exclusive get-together, and the guest list included Jade Kisnorbo, Jessie Murphy, and Chris Kontos.
Although Nadia Bartel and Bec Judd weren’t present either, people were most curious about Rozalia’s absence, with speculation arising about whether it had to do with Sarah’s situation.
Daily Mail has contacted Rozalia, Sarah and other guests for comment.
Effie looked radiant with excitement as she shared a series of photos on Instagram earlier this week, clearly showing off her pregnancy glow.
The fashion designer wore a light pink, flowing dress that she created herself, leading many to believe she and her husband, James Cerolini, are expecting a daughter.
She took pictures with a number of special guests, including a group photo with Sarah, event planner Shirin Pulitano, and interior designer Lauren Tarrant.
Although Lana Wilkinson, Rozalia’s friend and podcast partner, was featured in the gallery’s photos, Rozalia, who used to be a ballerina, wasn’t among them.
She did leave a supportive comment on the post, writing to Effie, ‘Gorgeous!! Can’t wait to meet her x.’
Rozalia also didn’t attend Effie’s gender reveal party earlier this year, which many found noticeable, especially since the party was held at a venue owned by the Lucas family.
Lots of well-known Melbourne socialites attended the event at Maison Bâtard. However, Rozalia only acknowledged it online, commenting on Instagram that she wished she could have joined.
Rozalia, who is married to nightclub owner Nick Russian, moves in the same social circles as Sarah. However, people following Melbourne society have noticed they haven’t been seen together in public recently.
Although we don’t know for sure why, their choice to stop following each other on Instagram suggests a problem.
The last photos of the two friends together were taken in May, and they were standing far apart from each other in the picture.
Sarah was first married to Steven Lew, whose father, Solomon Lew, is a well-known retail billionaire. In 2023, she married Chris, a leader in the hospitality industry, in a wedding held in Venice.
They tied the knot in the same ballroom where George and Amal Clooney said ‘I do’.
Sarah’s teen daughter Bella Lew is also considered a rising star of high-society.
Sarah not only married into a wealthy family, but she also comes from a privileged background herself. Her parents once listed their luxurious Toorak home for $8 million.
After her divorce from Steven in 2011, the Lew family reportedly reached a substantial, though private, financial settlement with Sarah.
If Sarah is having trouble with Rozalia, this wouldn’t be the first time she’s clashed with a well-known public figure.
Sources say she and Effie had a disagreement in 2023 after the paparazzi found out where Sarah was getting married in Venice.
Months later, Sarah failed to attend Effie’s wedding at St Patrick’s Cathedral.
It seems Sarah and Effie have resolved any past disagreements, as Sarah recently attended Effie’s baby shower.
Chris, Sarah’s husband, is the creative force behind several of Melbourne’s most popular and fashionable restaurants, like Yakimono, Grill Americano, and Chin Chin.
The Lucases were named one of Melbourne’s power couples in 2022.
