Andy Dick claims he’s fully recovered after a video showing him seemingly unconscious on steps in Hollywood went viral this week, appearing to show an overdose.

The comedian, who has a conviction for sexual offenses, has been publicly discussing a recent health issue. He told the New York Post he thinks fentanyl may have caused it, and in an earlier interview with TMZ, he admitted to occasionally using crack cocaine.

According to Dick, paramedics told his friends that fentanyl was probably what caused the death. He explained that it’s the only substance that could have acted so quickly, like someone simply collapsing.

Dick told reporters that while he was out with friends on Tuesday, someone signaled for his attention. He briefly excused himself and used drugs.

I heard Dick talking about this really sad situation he witnessed. He said he saw a guy around his age who seemed incredibly down, just sitting on the sidewalk. Then, the guy pulled out what looked like crack, and Dick admitted he actually considered trying some himself – he felt so low at the time that he thought maybe it could help, even just for a little while.

He told the Post that he then “just dropped,” but declined to elaborate any further.

Shawn Harrell, a witness at the scene, said Dick was in critical condition on Tuesday. Harrell was with friends attempting to help Dick and saw the first responders arrive.

According to Harrell, the person’s skin had turned blue – his hands and face were completely blue. He was completely limp, like a heavy weight, and Harrell feared he had died.

After receiving Narcan, a drug that reverses opioid overdoses, Dick reportedly left with a friend and didn’t need to go to the hospital.

“It was a group effort,” one of Dick’s friends said to TMZ.

According to the Post, Dick’s comments about crack were meant to be a joke.

Dick made a lighthearted comment that occasional small cracks weren’t a big deal, but he says it ultimately led to his death. He described the moment he died, saying his lips turned purple.

Dick has faced several legal and behavioral issues related to substance use, including arrests for public intoxication, drug possession, and incidents involving sexual misconduct and domestic violence. Recent reports indicate he tends to drink alcohol more often than use drugs.
