5 Years Later, This Underrated “Revenge-Fueled” Action Thriller That’s “Gleefully Gory” Returns to Invade Netflix

The early 2020s were a strange time, largely due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and that definitely impacted movies. Many films intended for big-screen releases were postponed, canceled, or quietly released online. Now, a particularly good one that overcame those challenges is coming back to Netflix next month, giving audiences another chance to enjoy it – especially if they missed it when it first came out five years ago.

The action thriller Becky, directed by Jonathan Milott and Cary Murnion, follows a father and daughter (played by Lulu Wilson and Joel McHale) trying to reconnect on a weekend trip. Their getaway is interrupted when they’re attacked by a group of escaped Neo-Nazi prisoners, led by a surprising face: Kevin James. Released on June 5, 2020, in drive-in theaters and for digital streaming, Becky performed surprisingly well, ranking second in its opening weekend with $205,797 in earnings and reaching #12 on the iTunes store. While not a blockbuster, these results were solid for a little-known independent film, particularly considering the challenges of releasing a movie during a global pandemic.

Becky, a spirited and independent young woman, attempts to mend her relationship with her father during a weekend trip to a lakeside cabin. However, their getaway is interrupted when dangerous escaped convicts, headed by the ruthless Dominick, unexpectedly break into their home.

Will There Be a Third ‘Becky’ Movie?

Quiver Distribution

With the positive reception to The Wrath of Becky and its ending hinting at another sequel, it’s likely we’ll see Lulu Wilson reprise her role as Becky in a third film eventually. The exact timing is unknown, but a sequel is confirmed and Wilson is signed on to star. A recent mention in a Deadline article about Wilson’s upcoming Hulu comedy suggested Becky 3 might be coming sooner than expected.

Wilson is famous for her roles in the popular action movies Becky and The Wrath of Becky. She just finished filming the lead in the family sci-fi film Xeno from Hartbeat, and is now preparing to film the last Becky movie, concluding the series.

I’m really curious to see where Lulu Wilson takes her character next – that rage is something else! If you’re as hooked as I am, mark your calendars: the original Becky is coming back to Netflix on January 1st, 2026. And the good news is, you won’t need to jump to another platform to get your fix, because The Wrath of Becky is already streaming there too!
