Half-Life 3 Fans Losing Their Minds Over Game Awards Announcement

With The Game Awards 2025 now over, it’s time to look at all the winners and exciting announcements. But first, check in on any Half-Life fans you know – they’re likely feeling pretty disappointed right now.

The gaming show last night had some surprising reveals! Larian Studios announced a new Divinity game, and Casey Hudson is developing a new Star Wars RPG set during the final days of the Old Republic. Capcom is even bringing back Mega Man after a long hiatus! But everyone’s still wondering: what about Half-Life 3?

Was Half-Life 3 At The Game Awards?

Better luck next time

Okay, so everyone was really hoping to see Half-Life 3 at The Game Awards this year, but it just didn’t happen. Honestly, I think that’s when the rest of us fans just…lost it. I could practically feel the collective disappointment turn into resigned acceptance when they announced the new Mega Man game instead. It was a sad, but somehow predictable, moment.

For a brief moment, a puzzling trailer looked like it might be the long-awaited new Half-Life game. However, it turned out to be something else entirely: the return of Mega Man, or the Blue Bomber! This was great news for many gamers, but a disappointment for those hoping to finally see Half-Life 3 revealed at The Game Awards.

One fan reacted with a string of laughter – “HAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHA” – in a post on the Half-Life subreddit, and it’s already received over 12,000 likes.

“I can’t believe Valve didn’t match the expectations I invented in my head,” another user wrote.

A third added: “YOU REALLY THOUGHT! YOU FELL FOR IT AGAIN!”

One fan jokingly (and hopefully not seriously) claimed they broke their TV in front of their party guests because of something that happened. They added that their wife, upset by the incident, took their children to a hotel for the week. The fan expressed extreme frustration, stating the company had ruined their life and party, and announced they were done being a fan.

Is Half-Life 3 Still Out There, Somewhere?

We just don’t know

Is a new Half-Life 3 game secretly in development? I suspect it might be, though I’m just going on a feeling right now. There’s been talk that Valve could release a new Half-Life game alongside their upcoming Steam Machine console, hoping to boost sales. However, that’s still just speculation.

Even if Valve is secretly working on Half-Life 3, it’s unlikely we’d see it announced at The Game Awards. Valve prefers to operate independently, so we’ll just have to be patient and wait for any news.
