An influencer and podcaster from Australia recently shared a story about a terrible first date, and the early warning sign that made him end it.
Billy Barker, host of the Sensory Overload podcast, recently voiced his opinions on TikTok. He shared a video of himself driving to a date on Thursday, using it as a platform for a lengthy discussion of the app.
He admitted he got flustered when his date sent a picture of what he was wearing – especially because he was wearing ripped jeans.
Billy jokingly called ripped jeans a ‘red flag,’ suggesting that someone comfortable wearing them on a first date might be unpredictable. He even confessed he almost cancelled the date because of it, saying, ‘I don’t think I want to go.’
Even though Billy was hesitant, he went on the date, but it ended up being uncomfortable and frustrating.
As Billy drove home from his date, he continued to vent, complaining that his date wore ripped jeans and didn’t even offer to pay for his drink. He also described the man as ‘a little bit rude’.

The date worsened when his companion lit a cigarette and the ash fell into his wine.
Looking back on what happened, he admitted he wished he’d stayed home. He explained that he really tried to push through, but ultimately realized he needed to leave.
The influencer was shocked when the man told him he didn’t look straight and would never be seen that way, saying he looked ‘really gay’.
Billy felt cornered when his date offered to walk him to the car, and blurted out, ‘Please, just let me go, I need to leave!’
Since sharing the story, reactions online have been split.
Billy ultimately decided that he preferred being single, saying he couldn’t handle the drama and found the situation completely unpleasant.
His video divided opinion among followers, with several slamming Billy for his actions.
One person suggested the problem might be with the person doing the canceling, while another questioned getting upset over something as minor as ripped jeans.
One person shared their frustration with dating, saying it’s often filled with quick judgment after just one meeting. Another user wondered why someone thought they were entitled to a free drink.
Someone else commented, ‘Did you cover the cost of his drink? Honestly, he’s pretty fortunate.’
Despite the criticism, many people defended Billy, with one person writing: ‘Getting cigarette ash in your wine? Seriously? He clearly has an inflated ego. Your time is too valuable to be spent on this.’
