Nicola Coughlan and Siobhan McSweeney, both known from Derry Girls, got together at the after-party for the play ‘The Playboy of the Western World’ at The National Theatre on Thursday evening.
As someone who keeps a close eye on what’s trending, I always get excited when talented actors reunite! You might remember Nicola and Siobhán – they were absolutely brilliant together in the hit show Derry Girls, which sadly wrapped up in 2022. It’s fantastic to see them working together again!
They played the roles of Clare Devlin and Sister Michael, respectively.
The popular pair have reunited and performed a dress rehearsal with their co-star Éanna Hardwicke before the play officially opens.
Nicola, playing the role of Pegeen Mike, looked chic after the press showing, wearing a cream-colored wool dress and heels.
Siobhán looked stylish in a brown suede top and white pleated skirt while posing for photos with Nicola, a star from Bridgerton.

John Millington Synge’s play, The Playboy of the Western World, is a three-act drama that premiered at the Abbey Theatre in Dublin in 1907.
This revival is directed by Caitríona McLaughlin, artistic director of the Abbey Theatre.
The show features a talented cast including Marty Breen, Declan Conlon, Lorcan Cranitch, Megan Cusack, Naoise Dunbar, Matthew Forest, Sallay Garnett, Fionnuala Gygax, Erin Hennessey, Marty Rea, Susan Akintomide, Peter Mooney, and Donncha O’Dea.
Pegeen Flaherty’s ordinary life is disrupted when a young man unexpectedly enters her pub and confesses to murdering his father.
Rather than being rejected, Christy Mahon, a man who committed murder, is surprisingly embraced as a hero by the local community. He quickly becomes popular and integrates himself into the fabric of village life.
‘That is until a second man unexpectedly arrives on the scene…’
The production’s creative team features Katie Davenport (set and costume design), James Farncomb (lighting), Adrienne Quartly (sound), Anna Mullarkey (composition), and Alastair Coomer and Naomi Downham (casting).
This production will be playing at the Lyttelton Theatre until February 28, 2026. A performance for the press will be held on December 11th at 7 p.m.

These initial photos were released after Nicola previously expressed her enthusiasm about working with her former Derry Girls co-star on this new project.
In April, Nicola shared on Instagram that she was reconnecting with an old friend to embark on a new journey – experiencing a traditional Irish activity.
‘So excited to be bringing the Wesht of Ireland to the @nationaltheatre.’
Siobhán happily announced the news on social media, writing, ‘So happy to finally share this! I feel incredibly lucky.’
‘Thank you @nationaltheatre for allowing me back.’
