Big Sunrise star dies as Samantha Armytage mourns his loss with heartbreaking post

Dr. Keith Suter, a regular guest on the Sunrise program, passed away in hospital this week at the age of 77. Samantha Armytage, Natalie Barr, and Matt Shirvington were among those who honored his memory.

A highly respected Foreign Affairs Editor, known for his extensive knowledge – he earned three doctorate degrees and led many global organizations – died peacefully in the hospital this week.

The news was announced by Nat, 57, and Shirvo, 47, on Sunrise in the early hours of Friday morning.

Before the news begins, we’d like to briefly remember Dr. Keith Suter, a dear friend and part of the Sunrise family, who sadly passed away peacefully in hospital this week.

Keith has been a valued member of the Sunrise and Seven teams for many years. He’s incredibly intelligent, provides clear and reliable reporting on challenging issues, and is a pleasure to work with.

As a lifestyle expert, I always appreciated how he broke down really complex things – wars, elections, all sorts of global crises – in a way that didn’t feel overwhelming. He had a calming presence, making people feel secure even when discussing difficult topics. My heart goes out to his wonderful family this morning.

Following the news, 49-year-old Samantha, who previously co-hosted Sunrise with David Koch from 2013 to 2021, posted a touching message on Instagram.

She shared her sadness about the death of Dr. Keith Suter, calling him a wonderful man and posting a photo of him from an appearance on a breakfast television show.

Dr. Keith had a remarkable ability to explain complex global issues with kindness and a great sense of humor. He was always available to talk, and we often did, especially when important news was breaking. We’ll miss him dearly. Rest in peace.

Nat and Shirvo also shared that viewers had been expressing their sympathy, with one person commenting that Suter had a gift for explaining complex global issues and would be greatly missed.

Nat admitted that understanding world events can be difficult, and many people often act as if they’re more informed than they actually are. He was impressed by how clearly the speaker explained even the most fundamental aspects of these issues to everyone.

Shirvo mentioned that the man was handsome, had a charming personality, and always dressed impeccably. He added, ‘He really was a lovely man, and he spoke to everyone, didn’t he?’

“I know,” Nat said, her voice filled with sadness. “We’re all going to miss him so much. Please accept our deepest sympathies to his family; he’ll be truly missed.”

More to come.
