In a recent interview with Digital Spy, actors Isaac Keys and Kris D Lofton discussed the reunion of the Sampson brothers, explained why their character Tommy Egan wasn’t involved this season, and talked about how season 3 is the most intense and violent yet.

Actor Keys, who plays the character Diamond, described Diamond as a powerful figure, explaining that he often considered whether or not he even needed to explain things to others.

As a leader myself, do I really need to explain every single detail of my plans? Sometimes, I just need to trust my team – Diamond, for example – to take initiative and get things done. That’s simply his style; he’s a natural leader.

Season 3 has seen a rift brewing between Diamond and Tommy, with the two wanting to lead CBI.

Keys described how the dynamic on the show shifted, making it hard to tell who was leading and who was following. He explained that Diamond often asked Tommy for direction – ‘What do you want to do now? What’s your plan?’ – so much that even Isaac felt like saying, ‘Just take charge, Diamond!’

After a long struggle, Diamond and Jenard finally had their chance to prove themselves as brothers when they decisively defeated Zamost, eliminating his gang’s presence in Chicago.

Keys went on to describe what it meant to Diamond to regain control during the challenge. He said, “I think that’s a really impressive accomplishment for Diamond. It proves he’s willing to work with the game and be a team player.”

He’s still the one in charge, and he has the authority to make those decisions. He can explain his reasoning afterward, but ultimately it’s his choice. However, like any good relationship, a lack of communication can create problems.

Lofton admitted he doesn’t know if his character, Jenard, can keep up the positive relationship he’s built with Diamond.

He believes it will be very difficult. He’s not confident Jenard can hold onto anyone, not even Diamond, because Jenard is struggling with many issues, including addiction, and seems to be trying to please everyone.

The actor clarified why they didn’t involve Tommy Egan in the operation, explaining it was a first step towards mending things with his brother and working together on decisions for the organization. He explained that Tommy and Diamond were directing Jenard, rather than handling the situation themselves, even though he represented the CBI.

As I recall, Tommy wasn’t with us during that scene – it was just Diamond and me, and that felt right. It felt like this is how things should be. We didn’t need anyone else’s help; we did it all ourselves.

It felt like a long-awaited relief for Jenard in that episode, a really refreshing moment.

When discussing the show’s intense moments, Keys hinted that season 3 will be especially rewarding for fans, explaining they’ve been waiting a long time for its release.

Honestly, even watching it myself, I was surprised by certain moments. I was either too focused on my performance in the scene, or I’d simply forgotten what had happened previously – like the scene with the tongue removal, or other key events.

Fans are in for a real treat! After such a long wait for this show, they deserve everything we can give them – we want to make sure they have an amazing experience.
