First Look at Jason Momoa’s New DC Villain Lobo Gets Unveiled (Official)

As a huge DC fan, I was so excited to finally see the first trailer for Supergirl! But honestly, the biggest surprise was getting our first glimpse of Jason Momoa as Lobo in the new DCU. It’s great to see him continuing his DC journey – especially after playing Aquaman in the old DCEU. He was one of the first actors from that universe James Gunn confirmed would be joining the reboot, and it’s really cool to see it actually happen.

Fans immediately suggested Jason Momoa, known for his role in Game of Thrones, for the part of Lobo, the cigar-loving alien bounty hunter from the comics, and he was soon officially cast. Many consider Momoa’s casting as the DC Comics villain to be a perfect fit, as his appearance has always resembled the character’s rugged look.

Though fans had gotten glimpses of the character while Supergirl was being filmed, the movie’s first trailer gave a clear, high-definition look at Momoa as Lobo. You can see Momoa’s new DCU villain around 1 minute and 40 seconds into the two-minute trailer, arriving through a doorway in what appears to be a building on a distant DC planet.

The character makes a very brief appearance, finally revealing his complete appearance as seen in the recent movie. He looks just like his comic book version: a worn leather vest, long black hair, a beard, pale skin, and, naturally, a lit cigar.

Unlike some other characters in the new movie, Jason Momoa’s portrayal of Lobo appears to be very faithful to the original comic book version. He even physically embodies the character perfectly, with the large and powerful build fans would expect from such a formidable, intergalactic villain.

This is quite a departure from Jason Momoa’s appearance as Aquaman in the DC Universe, though his previous character did share some similarities with Lobo, such as his long hair and beard.

The last time audiences saw Jason Momoa as Aquaman, he wore the character’s famous yellow and green suit. Now, he’s taking on a completely different look – more like a leather-wearing alien biker.

It’s unknown exactly how Lobo will appear in the Supergirl movie, as he isn’t part of the comic book story (Woman of Tomorrow) the film is based on. However, producers have promised his appearance will be very faithful to his comic book design.

The new movie Supergirl will be released in theaters on June 26, 2026. In it, Jason Momoa’s character, Lobo, will fight Supergirl, played by Milly Alcock. The story follows Supergirl as she travels through space on a dangerous mission of revenge, after a young alien named Ruthye asks for her help.

How Will Lobo Play Into James Gunn’s DCU?

Fans are thrilled Lobo is officially joining the DC Universe in the upcoming Supergirl series, and it’s even more exciting that Jason Momoa, a familiar face to DC fans, will be involved in his introduction.

Jason Momoa is the first well-known actor to rejoin the franchise, and his return could open the door for other former DC Universe stars – like Henry Cavill or Gal Gadot – to appear in James Gunn’s reimagined comic book world.

As a big fan, I’m really intrigued by Jason Momoa’s role in the upcoming Supergirl movie. It’s cool they’re adding something new, since his character isn’t actually in the comic book series the film is based on. That comic, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, follows a 21-year-old Kara as she goes on a galaxy-spanning journey to track down the person who killed a young girl’s father, which ultimately leads her to the main villain, Krem of the Yellow Hills.

Matthias Schoenaerts returns as Krem in the latest film, and it looks like the character Lobo will also be a key villain.

Jason Momoa’s character in the new film is currently billed as a brief cameo, meaning he probably won’t be in it for very long. Given that his character is a bounty hunter, it’s easy to imagine him crossing paths with Supergirl – he’ll likely be after Krem, hoping to collect a reward.

It’s possible this is just the start for Lobo in the DC Universe. He might return in a future Supergirl movie as the main villain, perhaps motivated by feeling rejected by Supergirl in the first film.
