Just weeks before news of his apparent overdose on Tuesday, Andy Dick was spotted out on the streets of Los Angeles.
A 59-year-old comedian with a well-known history of alcohol and drug abuse was recently filmed by an Instagram user, @joy.of.everything. The Daily Mail obtained the video last month.
I was really shocked to see the photos that just came out – they show the actor completely slumped over and unresponsive on a street in Hollywood yesterday. Apparently, his friends immediately ran to help and called 911, according to TMZ. It’s just really worrying to see.
A recent Instagram video appears to show Dick sitting on the sidewalk near a busy movie theater in downtown Los Angeles. The video seems to have been taken on November 8th during the 2025 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony.
Okay, so I was filming, and then I saw him. It was the comedian, and I just had to get closer! He was just standing there, casually sipping from a water bottle – a clear plastic cup, I remember noticing even then – and I totally walked right up to him. I couldn’t believe it was really happening!
The videographer greeted Andy, complimenting his appearance. Andy replied with a slightly slurred voice, saying, “I always look good… thank you.”
When questioned who his ‘favorite rapper’ is, the NewsRadio actor replied, ‘Missy Elliot.’
The person recording the video then told him that the hip-hop group OutKast had been recognized with an honor at the ceremony that night.
Oh my god, did you hear that? Dick just said ‘Missy… OutKast!’ It was like a religious experience, honestly. Then he immediately went, ‘Wait, what?’ like he couldn’t believe his own brilliance. I’m telling you, it was perfect. A total mood.
The man repeated that OutKast was honored and the comedian excitedly replied, ‘Oh my God!’
Dick then addressed someone not visible on camera, seemingly surprised by their lack of knowledge, and pointedly said, ‘You didn’t know that, Billy? Especially considering you’re Black!’
The actor continued, ‘OutKast was… why didn’t you get me invited?’
The videographer also mentioned that Andre 3000 and Big Boi of OutKast were close by, causing Dick to shout ‘No!’
Dick turned to the camera, shaking his head in disbelief. “You’ve got to be joking,” he said. “Billy, you didn’t know that? They were standing right there! I’ve known them since our MTV days.”
Oh my gosh, he said it! He was standing there, right on the curb as they were going into the venue, and he just… he said we’re on a different level now. Like, we get it, we understand, and they just… don’t. It’s like he’s acknowledging us, the real fans, and it’s everything! I’m telling you, it’s a whole new era, and he knows it!
Dick chuckled after his remark, then continued, ‘You have no idea how popular I am. Seriously…’
He rested against the theater wall and explained, ‘You could tell people Andy is over there. We sometimes jokingly tell others, “He’s not doing so great, he’s feeling a bit rough.”
Dick, wearing a black North Face jacket and pants, finished the conversation with a cheerful gesture, raising his cup and exclaiming that he was doing great.
According to Dick’s lawyer, Dan Kapelovitz, the comedian was wearing a VIP lanyard because he had just come from the premiere of the movie T Bird, in which he appears.
Kapelovitz said that after walking the red carpet and seeing the movie, Dick enjoyed chatting with people outside the theater. He was upset, though, that he couldn’t attend the event celebrating Outkast, as he’s a big fan of the group.
From what we’re understanding, this video was filmed on November 8th, which is really just weeks before the heartbreaking scene in Hollywood on Tuesday where the comedian was found unresponsive. It’s a stark reminder of how quickly things can change, and it’s just so sad to see.
Dick recently spoke to TMZ about the incident, admitting he occasionally uses crack cocaine. He stated he doesn’t have a problem with it, saying he ‘doesn’t mind doing a little every now and then.’
In a brief video, he appeared with two friends and was asked how he was doing.
‘Doesn’t it look like I’m 100% fine? 110%,’ the actor replied.
The two people sitting next to Dick were identified as those who had assisted the comedian when he seemed to be overdosing.
Someone told the publication that they were supposed to spend time with a person named Dick, but he unexpectedly left without telling them.
A friend explained that he went through a difficult experience, and that their group of friends all worked together to help him through it.
Dick interrupted to share that he recently met someone his age who seemed to be struggling. This man then unexpectedly pulled out crack cocaine, and Dick admitted he was tempted to try it.
‘I wanted to see what he was doing and also, I don’t mind doing a little crack every now and then.’
Oh my gosh, it was just… incredible. Apparently, someone actually told Dick, right when it was happening, to squeeze their hand and think about his grandkids! And he did! He actually squeezed their hand so tight! It’s just… knowing he focused on his precious grandbabies during that moment? I’m getting chills just thinking about it. It shows what mattered most to him, you know?
The actor told TMZ that he did not know the man he came across on the street.
I recently met a guy my age who was having a really tough time. He was smoking drugs using aluminum foil, and I recognized what he was doing. I ended up asking him for some.
Oh my god, I just saw the pictures… the Daily Mail had them, and it broke my heart! It was Dick, completely collapsed on some steps in broad daylight. He was just… out cold, his head slumped forward over his legs. I’m seriously worried sick, it was such a shocking sight. I can’t stop thinking about it!
Dick was incredibly weak and slumped over, dressed in a brown jacket, pajama pants, and Crocs. A passerby attempted to help him sit up, and his distinctive rectangular glasses fell and rested on the sidewalk nearby.
A few moments passed, and he was lying motionless on the ground, still unconscious.
Dick has struggled with drug and alcohol abuse for many years, and this has led to repeated legal problems. He’s faced several accusations of sexual misconduct and has been arrested multiple times.
In 2022, he was ordered to register as a sex offender stemming from a 2018 conviction.
According to TMZ, friends tried to wake him up and immediately called 911 on Tuesday, according to witnesses.
According to reports, Narcan, a medication used to reverse opioid overdoses, was given to someone at the location.
According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, paramedics responded to a call and treated a 59-year-old man who had overdosed, as reported by TMZ.
The representative added that the man was not taken to a hospital afterward.
It’s fairly common for people who are revived with Narcan to refuse further medical care once they wake up.
LAPD officers also reportedly responded to the scene due to the 911 call.
Dick told TMZ he was just glad to be unharmed after what happened, but he didn’t share any details about the situation.
Once a hugely popular comedian, Dick has struggled with drug abuse and legal issues in recent years.
He gained public attention in 2022 when he was arrested at a campground in O’Neill Regional Park, located in Orange County, Southern California.
Dick was arrested after a man reported a sexual assault that allegedly occurred in the recreational vehicle where Dick had been living. He had been staying in the RV with live-streamers after losing his apartment a year earlier.
A livestream of the arrest was later posted on YouTube.
Sergeant Scott Steinle told Page Six that the Special Victims Unit is handling the case and part of their work involves ensuring the victim receives necessary medical attention, which could include a physical examination.
In May 2022, Dick appeared in court to address accusations dating back four years, alleging he inappropriately touched an Uber driver.
