Season 14 of Chicago Fire will surprisingly feature the return of a beloved character. The show, created by Dick Wolf, is still adjusting after some recent cast changes and is working to rebuild the dynamic at Firehouse 51. This year, the series said goodbye to long-time stars Sam Carver and Darren Ritter, but welcomed new cast member Sam Vasquez.
Even with regular cast changes, the One Chicago shows have consistently remained popular. Chicago Fire has said farewell to several long-time actors in recent years, and while some received satisfying goodbyes, others simply vanished without much explanation. Surprisingly, season 14 of Chicago Fire is bringing back a character who hasn’t been seen on the show for quite some time.
Katelynn Shennett announced on Instagram (according to Hello! Magazine) that she’ll be appearing as Kylie Estevez in season 14 of Chicago Fire. She posted photos from the set, showing her trailer, but she wasn’t in her firefighter uniform. Fans will recall that Kylie recently completed her training and officially became a firefighter, though she was hesitant at first, wanting to forge her own path before eventually joining Firehouse 51.

Kylie last appeared in season 13 of Chicago Fire, episode 12, when she temporarily joined Firehouse 51 to cover staffing issues after Jack Damon’s departure. When the show decided to bring Jack Damon back, it was decided Kylie’s character would no longer be part of the story. Fans haven’t seen her on Chicago Fire since, so it’s exciting to have her return for season 14.
Kylie used to work with Engine 51 at Firehouse 51, and now that team, currently led by Mouch, is facing possible closure, as suggested by the season 14 finale. If Kylie returns to help cover staffing gaps, it might mean the Chicago Fire Department has decided against shutting down Mouch’s dependable squad.
From what we see in Shennett’s post, it looks like her return to Chicago Fire will be brief – just one episode. This is especially interesting considering she wasn’t brought back for Chief Boden’s farewell. It suggests her appearance will be important, impacting both her character and the rest of the team. Regardless, it’s always good to have her back!
