The BBC has announced that Shetland will be back for an eleventh season. The confirmation came at the end of last night’s season 10 finale, delivered through a voiceover.
In a post on X, BBC Scotland Comms wrote: “It’s official, #Shetland will return in 2026!”
The season 10 finale revealed the killer of Eadie Tulloch, as detectives Ruth Calder (Ashley Jensen) and Tosh McIntosh (Alison O’Donnell) solved the case.

Initially, the death of the former social worker appeared to be a sad accident, discovered outside her house. However, officers noticed things that didn’t seem right, leading them to look into her background and personal relationships.
The season 10 finale solved the mystery of her death, revealing that Arthur Mair, played by Clive Russell, was the killer – not her son, Ed Tulloch (Stuart Townsend), as many viewers suspected. The identity of the killer had been a topic of discussion for weeks.
Billy’s position on the show is now in doubt. The police sergeant is being investigated because he hid evidence to help out his old friend, Robert.

Viewers shared their reactions on social media, with one user on X saying the finale was thrilling and full of surprises, just as they expected – a fitting conclusion to what many considered one of the best seasons of #Shetland.
“I can’t wait for season 11 and to find out what happens with Billy… 😬😬😬.”
Someone else commented that ‘#Shetland’ is a bit quirky but ultimately enjoyable and relaxing to watch. Their main issue? The character Sandy deserves a promotion!

A third posted: “Every series of #Shetland I enjoy more & more and that one was no exception. 🩵
Honestly, I’ve been having such a hard time concentrating on anything lately, even just watching TV. But this completely grabbed me – it was amazing! I really hope this isn’t the last we see of Billy, though. It would be a shame! 💔
