Davey Lloyd recently shared a heartfelt message with his fans, continuing to discuss his challenging experiences with addiction and his inspiring recovery.
On Thursday, the 35-year-old former Bachelorette shared a personal video on Instagram, encouraging her followers to address their own issues and work on self-improvement instead of avoiding difficult emotions. She wrote a thoughtful message about breaking unhealthy patterns and facing personal challenges.
Let’s be real, so many of us wish things were different in our lives. But here’s the thing I tell all my clients: wanting change isn’t enough! It won’t magically appear. You have to do something, take those first steps, or it’s just going to stay a wishful thought. Change doesn’t just show up on your doorstep – you have to actively work for it.
As someone who’s spent years helping people find their best selves, I can tell you this: please, don’t hesitate to reach out for support. Whether it’s talking to a therapist, a friend who understands, or someone who’s walked a similar path, just talk. Bottling things up never works – those internal struggles will inevitably surface in unhealthy ways. The most important validation doesn’t come from others, it comes from within. Focus on your own self-worth and inner peace, and you’ll find the strength you need.
Let’s be real, change can be totally intimidating – I get that! But honestly, I’ve found that staying stuck in a rut, repeating the same patterns, is far more frightening in the long run. It’s about recognizing that discomfort is often a sign you’re growing, and that choosing growth, even when it’s hard, is always worth it.

Ignoring your inner struggles won’t make them disappear. They’ll likely resurface repeatedly in various ways until you finally address them.
Real change happens when you change from within. Personal growth begins when you finally stop avoiding who you truly are.
This new information follows Davey’s recent, honest discussion about his struggles with addiction. He shared that in December 2023, he accidentally overdosed on cocaine, and doctors briefly considered him clinically dead.
The former reality TV star has been sober for over 500 days. He says this achievement happened after he went to rehab following a frightening seizure caused by drug use – an experience that finally made him realize he needed help.
On the Soberly Speaking podcast, Davey revealed he’d been using drugs and alcohol to cope with unresolved trauma from his childhood.
During his time in rehab, he discovered that the grief from his brother’s unexpected death due to SIDS in 1988 had affected him even before he was born, as he’d carried it while in his mother’s womb.
It’s… it’s always been this weight, you know? My brother… he died when he was just five weeks old, on Christmas Eve. Cot death. It was awful. And then, not long after, I came along. Mum was still completely heartbroken, still grieving, when she was pregnant with me. I always felt like I absorbed all her sadness, all her worry about whether she was doing the right thing. It’s like it became part of me, just… ingrained. It’s shaped everything, really.
He confessed he started using drugs in his teens, first experimenting at age 16. He explained that cocaine, specifically, helped him feel like himself, likely because of his ADHD.

Honestly, hearing him explain it just clicked. He said it was like, because of my ADHD, my brain doesn’t make enough dopamine naturally. And that’s why, for me, cocaine… it wasn’t about getting high, it was like finally filling a hole, like I was self-treating. It just makes so much sense now!
I vividly recall feeling like I’d finally found my true self. I felt comfortable and capable of connecting with others – able to easily strike up conversations, be warm and approachable, and genuinely listen to their thoughts.
Davey revealed he had just finished a three-day drinking spree before starting his journey on Sam Frost’s season of The Bachelorette in 2015.
I’d definitely had a lot to drink over the weekend – probably around fifteen shots or so. I partied pretty much straight through from Friday until Monday morning, and then I had to rush out of the house on Tuesday to start work on a film.
Over the years, his drug use escalated, causing three seizures related to drug use. The most recent incident in 2023 was particularly severe, leaving him unconscious, unable to control his bladder, and requiring emergency medical attention.
He remembers being told he had briefly died. His friends tried to revive him with CPR, but weren’t successful until the ambulance arrived and paramedics brought him back to life.
I was shocked to hear how bad things got for Davey. He admitted that at his lowest point, he was spending around $8,000 every week on cocaine, and it left him with a massive $70,000 in debt. It’s heartbreaking to think about how much he struggled.
After being sober for almost two years, Davey has completely turned his life around and is determined to remain sober, especially as he looks forward to starting a family.
You know, I’ve worked with a lot of people making big life changes, and one thing I hear often is the incredible power of finding a ‘why.’ This man really nailed it. He realized that getting sober wasn’t just about him; it was about becoming the man he wanted to be – a good husband, a present father, and a supportive family member. He understood that building the life he dreamed of started with taking care of himself, and that’s a truly inspiring realization. It was all about creating a better future for the people he loved, and honestly, that’s the most powerful motivation there is.
People online have been overwhelmingly supportive of his change, praising his honesty and strength.
One fan praised Davey, saying they should be proud of themselves, and another commended their courage and honesty, adding that they’re ‘doing amazing things’.
As one fan summed up simply: ‘Sobriety looks so good on you.’
