DC Officially Confirms the Title of Batman’s Next Movie

DC has officially titled its next Batman movie, signaling a grand adaptation is in the works. The company is planning a lot of Batman-related content in the coming years – including films, TV shows, video games, animated series, and comics. The biggest project of all is The Batman: Part 2, which fans are anticipating will arrive in October 2027, more than five years after the first movie.

Warner Bros. Animation, likely working with DC Studios, is creating an adaptation of the famous Batman: Knightfall story, broken up into multiple parts. The first part is scheduled to come out in 2026, adding to the growing number of Batman projects planned for the next few years.

Warner Bros. announced at New York Comic Con 2025 that the first installment of their adaptation of the classic Batman story will be called Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall. It’s scheduled for release in 2026 and will cover the first section of the three-part Knightfall saga, though the title is a bit awkward.

While it’s unknown when the rest of the Knightfall story will be released after the initial chapters come out in 2026, future installments will be part of a larger wave of Batman-related content.

The Batman Part II (October 1, 2027)

Fans of The Batman are eagerly anticipating the sequel, directed by Matt Reeves and starring Robert Pattinson. After a long wait, the project is moving forward: the script is finished, filming is scheduled to begin in Spring 2026, and the filmmakers have just announced their first new cast member.

Clayface (September 11, 2026)

The upcoming Batman-related movie, and the first project launching James Gunn’s new DC Universe, will surprisingly focus on the villain Clayface, not Batman himself. Actor Tom Rhys Harries will play a struggling actor who transforms into the shape-shifting villain in a scary and dramatic story written by Mike Flanagan.

The Brave and the Bold (TBD)

DC Studios is facing challenges in starting production on its new Batman movie, The Brave and the Bold. The film will feature a new actor as Batman and introduce his son, Damian Wayne, who will eventually become Robin. Andy Muschietti, the director of The Flash, is set to direct, though a release date hasn’t been announced yet.

Dynamic Duo (June 30, 2028)

Swaybox will create a unique animated project called Dynamic Duo using puppetry, focusing on the beginnings of the partnership between Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. The film, slated for release in 2028, will be produced by James Gunn and Matt Reeves, but it’s currently unknown if it will be part of the main DC Universe or exist as a separate story.

Batman: Caped Crusader Season 2 (2026)

The second season of Batman: Caped Crusader will arrive on Amazon Prime Video in 2026, continuing the show’s distinctive take on Batman as a detective in a dark, noir setting. According to a co-showrunner, Season 2 will feature a completely new version of the Joker, following a brief glimpse of the character at the end of the last season.

Harley Quinn Season 6 (TBD)

HBO Max hasn’t announced whether it will renew Harley Quinn for a sixth season. However, the show hasn’t been cancelled either, leaving its future up in the air after the fifth season ended in March. In addition, DC is reportedly developing a spin-off of Harley Quinn that could explore characters and stories from the Batman universe.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight (2026)

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight lets players explore a brick-built, open-world Gotham City with gameplay inspired by the popular Arkham series. The game tells a new story, following Bruce Wayne’s journey from his beginnings to becoming the Batman, and will take elements from different Batman movies.

Untitled Rocksteady Batman Game (TBD)

A new report from Bloomberg indicates that Rocksteady Games, known for the Arkham series, is planning another single-player Batman game. However, it’s likely several years away from release. It’s currently unknown if this will be a direct sequel to Arkham Knight, which came out over ten years ago, or a completely fresh take on the Batman universe.

Untitled Batman: Arkham Shadow Sequel (TBD)

In 2024, Camouflaj released Batman: Arkham Shadow, a virtual reality sequel to Arkham Origins, for the Meta Quest 3. Mark Rolston, who voices Commissioner Gordon, revealed to Culture Combine in September that he’s beginning work on another Arkham VR game.

Absolute Batman: Ark M Special (January 7, 2026)

In DC’s broader universe, there’s a dark and disturbing place called Ark M, which is similar to Arkham Asylum. It’s a secret facility created by the Joker where he conducts dangerous human experiments – experiments that even led to the creation of villains like Bane. A special issue of Absolute Batman coming out in January will reveal how Ark M began and uncover the awful truths hidden within its walls.

Batman: Knightfall Film(s)

Many fans believe DC will adapt this animated Batman story as a three-part series, mirroring the three books it’s based on, which are summarized below.

  • Knightfall – Batman goes head-to-head with Bane for the first time, only to be broken both physically and mentally, leading to the legendary image of the Dark Knight’s back being snapped over the villain’s knee.
  • Knightquest – A paralyzed Bruce Wayne passes on the Batman mantle to Jean-Paul Valley, aka Azrael, only for him to gradually stray away from Bruce’s warning to follow his code of never leaving lethal force.
  • Knightsend – The miraculously healed Bruce Wayne returns to Gotham. He trains with Lady Shiva to regain his physical capabilities and challenge Azrael for the Batman mantle, in which he comes out victorious.
