Overwatch 2’s Winter Wonderland event is back, and this year brings a new twist to the Freezethaw Elimination game mode! Players can now choose from the full hero roster, including the newest additions – Vendetta, Wuyang, and Freja – who all became playable in Overwatch 2 this year.

Overwatch 2 Freezethaw Elimination: How it works

Freezethaw Elimination in Overwatch 2 is a 4v4 game mode similar to freeze tag. Players eliminate opponents, who can be revived by teammates. The first team to win three rounds wins the match.

In this game mode, you’ll pick a hero and work with your team to defeat the opposing team. The Winter Wonderland 2025 update includes the newest hero, Vendetta, along with Wuyang and Freja, who were added earlier in the year.

Overwatch 2 Freezethaw Elimination tips and tricks

In Freezethaw Elimination, you can’t use the same hero for back-to-back rounds after winning with them. This means you can plan your hero picks to counter your opponents and choose heroes that work well in this mode. For example, Moira’s orbs are effective in close-quarters fights, as shown in the image. Heroes who can fly, like Echo, Pharah, and Freja, are also strong choices.

If a teammate is knocked out, you can revive them by approaching and pressing the ‘F’ key. Just make sure it’s safe first – watch out for enemies like a distant Widowmaker who might be aiming for another shot.

The Freezethaw Elimination mode is played on a variety of maps, including Antarctica, Necropolis, Castillo, Black Forest, and Ayutthaya. The map you get can really affect which heroes are best to pick. For example, if the map has cliffs, heroes like Pharah or Junkrat can knock opponents off the edges, eliminating them quickly.

If you defeat an opponent, their teammate might rush to revive them. You can take advantage of this by staying near the frozen (defeated) player, making it harder for them to be revived and giving you a significant advantage that can lead to winning the game.
