The first trailer for the new Supergirl movie is out, and it hints that Milly Alcock’s version of the character will be quite different from Superman. We first saw Alcock as Supergirl at the end of the Superman film, where she showed up at the Fortress of Solitude, a bit tipsy, to claim Krypto while Superman watched with a clear look of disapproval.
The first glimpse of the new DC Universe didn’t offer much insight into the multifaceted Supergirl, a character expected to be quite layered, drawing inspiration from the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comics. However, the recent preview of Kara Zor-El’s solo film has begun to highlight the differences between Supergirl and Superman within the DCU.
DC Has Released A Supergirl Trailer Teaser And The Movie’s Poster
December 10th was exciting for fans of Supergirl! DC released two new things that day, starting with an official poster. The poster shows Milly Alcock as Supergirl in her new costume, which includes a belt inspired by the Woman of Tomorrow comic, a long brown coat, and the slogan: “Truth. Justice. Whatever.”

DC released a short, 15-second teaser for the upcoming Supergirl series. The teaser shows Supergirl enjoying music, walking through fog, blowing out a candle, flying into space – possibly on Krypton during a ceremony – and being targeted by bounty hunters alongside her friend, Ruthye. This sneak peek arrives just before the full trailer is revealed.
How DC’s New Reveals Show Milly Alcock’s Supergirl Is Different From David Corenswet’s Superman In 2 Ways

With the release of new footage and a poster for the Supergirl movie, two key differences between it and the upcoming Superman film starring David Corenswet are becoming clear. One is the overall feel and setting of the movies, and the other is a traditional storytelling element. Specifically, the Supergirl trailer really emphasizes the character’s origins in outer space.
Supergirl ventures into space, and we briefly see what appears to be Krypton. The characters’ white outfits are reminiscent of those worn by Superman’s parents, Jor-El and Lara Lor-Van, as portrayed by Bradley Cooper and Angela Sarafyan. While the previous DC Universe film kept these cosmic connections focused on the character’s internal struggles, Supergirl showcases them openly and prominently.
The story of Superman takes place on Earth, where a human named Lex Luthor is the main antagonist. Supergirl, however, is a more expansive adventure that travels through space and actually shows Krypton, which is central to the more complex and somber story told in the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow comics. Another noticeable difference between the two series is simply how they are presented on their posters.
Superman’s traditional motto is “Truth, Justice, and the American Way.” However, it’s been updated to “A Better Tomorrow” in recent versions. A poster for Supergirl playfully twists this, adding “Whatever” to the end. This reflects Kara’s rebellious and carefree personality, which was evident in her portrayal in Superman. The series Supergirl features a hero who is far from perfect.
