Overwatch 2 Mischief & Magic: How it works

Mischief & Magic is a new game mode in Overwatch 2 that’s similar to prop hunt. Two teams of five players face off, and each round, everyone switches between playing as Genji or Kiriko. Genji tries to find and eliminate the Kiriko players, who are in hiding. The first team to win three rounds wins the match.

Overwatch 2 Mischief & Magic: Genji tips

If your team has a lot of Genji players, the main goal is to find and take out the enemy Kiriko players who are hiding by blending in with the environment. Playing as Genji, hitting something with a melee attack will slightly lower your health, but you can regain it by using your ultimate ability. You can also quickly move towards an object to attack it without losing health, though this ability has a brief recharge time.

A good strategy for Genji players is to stick with a teammate, but maintain some distance to avoid being stunned by Kiriko’s ability affecting both of you. If your ally gets stunned, you can quickly find and take out the player who did it. Also, learning the maps well will make this game mode much easier, helping you recognize what elements are out of place.

Overwatch 2 Mischief & Magic: Kiriko tips

If the enemy team has a lot of Kiriko players, it’s best to play defensively and avoid direct confrontation. Kiriko can disguise herself as objects and briefly stun Genji, but these abilities aren’t always available. The biggest challenge with Kiriko is that she automatically shouts out voice lines as her abilities recharge, potentially revealing her position. If you want to be effective, coordinate with your team to mislead enemy Genji players.

When playing Mischief & Magic in Overwatch 2, remember you can switch hiding spots after initially choosing one. A helpful tip, especially since this mode isn’t always played, is to hide somewhere elevated. Players often get caught up in the fast pace and forget to check above them.

Your team won the match by winning three rounds! As a reward, you’ll get Overwatch 2 Season 20 Battle Pass XP and progress towards the new Winter Wonderland 2025 event challenges. Completing those challenges will earn you Winter Wonderland Cookies, a special in-game currency you can use to get loot boxes, skins, and even skip Battle Pass tiers.
