Wobbly Life, the popular open-world game, is expanding into film and TV! Developer RubberBandGames has partnered with Adrian Askarieh and Prime Universe Films to bring the game, loved by millions of players worldwide, to the screen.
Prime Universe has experience adapting video games into movies and TV shows. They previously produced the Hitman films – the 2007 version with Timothy Olyphant and the 2015 film starring Rupert Friend – both based on the popular Hitman video game series. Now, they’re expanding that universe further with a new television series for 20th Television, with Adrian Askarieh as an executive producer.
Since its start as a small project in 2019, Wobbly Life has become a global hit. Thomas Dunn, founder and director of RubberBandGames, reports over 2.8 million copies sold and a total of 6 million players worldwide, attributing the success to the game’s community. In a recent statement, Dunn said, “We’re amazed by how much the game has grown this year!” He also expressed excitement about Wobbly Life expanding into film and television, predicting even greater things in 2026.
Askarieh expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration with ScreenRant. He highlighted the game’s unique appeal, noting that “Wobbly Life has a fun, chaotic energy and a distinct visual style that people immediately connect with.” Players can look forward to seeing those beloved qualities continue in future updates.
Bringing this world to film and television isn’t about simplifying it, but making it even better. We want to keep the exciting unpredictability, the unique handcrafted feel, and the joy of exploration that fans love, all while crafting a story that adds emotional resonance and meaning to this wonderfully strange universe they’ve built over the years.
At first glance, Wobbly Life seems like a simple, free-roaming sandbox game. Players can team up with up to three friends to explore, take on quirky jobs, and complete missions to better the lives of the island’s residents. With the recent “Space” update, the game now even lets you explore beyond the island and venture into outer space!
It’s challenging to predict exactly what a movie or TV show based on the game will look like, given its expansive and open-ended nature. However, the recent success of the Minecraft movie shows that adaptations of popular properties can thrive. Whatever Prime Universe decides to do, it’s likely to attract even more players to the game.
