Despite dying in a recent Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) film in 2025, one of the actors who played a key character hinted at a possible return in future projects. The current ‘Multiverse Saga’ has featured many significant character deaths, affecting both long-time MCU stars and those new to the franchise, but this particular character’s story might not be over.
Olga Kurylenko, known for her role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, suggested her character, Taskmaster, could reappear in future Marvel projects despite seemingly dying in the upcoming Thunderbolts movie (scheduled for 2025). In an interview with Deadline, Kurylenko discussed her character’s early death, implying the movie had “too many characters” to accommodate everyone. However, she playfully noted that with Marvel, “you just never die,” leaving the door open for a potential return.
It felt like they were altering the storylines, possibly because there were too many characters to keep track of. With Marvel, it’s always unpredictable. Superheroes are constantly dying, but it never seems to stick. One moment they’re gone, the next they’re back… It’s like no one actually stays dead.
Antonia Dreykov, also known as Taskmaster, first appeared in the movie Black Widow in 2021 and returned in 2025’s Thunderbolts. Unfortunately, she was quickly killed off – shot by Hannah John-Kamen’s Ghost within the first 18 minutes of Thunderbolts after only one scene and a single line of dialogue.
Okay, so I finally saw Thunderbolts, and it wraps up Phase 5 of the MCU. Released as their second film of 2025, it brings together a really interesting, and let’s be honest, slightly chaotic team – Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, and Lewis Pullman all star. The plot centers around this team of heroes and antiheroes being tasked with taking down the incredibly powerful Sentry and his dark side, the Void. If you want to check it out, Thunderbolts is now streaming on Disney+.
How Olga Kurylenko’s Taskmaster Could Return to the MCU

Several people involved in the film have mentioned how challenging it was to eliminate the Taskmaster character, particularly so early on. The decision was made to immediately raise the tension and create higher stakes. Although there was discussion about delaying the moment, the director, Jake Schreier, felt that having it happen sooner would prevent the sadness from overshadowing the rest of the film.
Marvel hasn’t ruled out bringing Taskmaster back in future movies. It’s common in comic book franchises for characters to reappear, and given how little screen time Taskmaster had, a well-executed return could be popular with fans.
With the multiverse now open in Marvel stories, there’s a possibility we could see another version of the Taskmaster, similar to rumors about a new Black Panther. If Marvel wants to avoid bringing back the original Taskmaster, Antonia Dreykov, they could also introduce a different character who takes on the Taskmaster identity.
Look, I don’t know what Marvel has planned for this character, but Kurylenko’s recent statements definitely suggest they’re keeping their options open. It sounds like we could see a lot more of this interesting fighter down the line, and honestly, I’m excited to see where they take her.
