Pierce Brosnan’s Sheffield-set drama hailed as “sure-fire crowdpleaser” as new trailer lands

A new, longer trailer has been released for the sports movie Giant, which tells the true story of boxing star Prince Naseem ‘Naz’ Hamed and stars Pierce Brosnan and Amir El-Masry.

El-Masry plays the role of Naz, a British Yemeni boxer, in Rowan Athale’s new film. The movie tells Naz’s incredible life story, following his journey from humble beginnings in Sheffield to becoming a world-famous fighter.

Pierce Brosnan plays Brendan Ingle, an ex-professional Irish boxer who used to run a gym in Wincobank and serves as a mentor and trainer to Naz.

Okay, the trailer just gave me chills! You see how Naz and Brendan first meet – it’s instantly clear there’s something special there. And from that moment, Brendan really takes Naz under his wing, mentoring him and helping him become a huge boxing star in the 90s. It’s a really inspiring story!

“They hate you cause you’re different,” Brosnan’s Brendan tells the young boxer. “Embrace it.”

The film Giant also depicts how the characters of Naz and his partner grow both in their careers and as a couple, particularly as Naz achieves success.

“You shouldn’t take credit for my success,” Naz says in the clip.

In one scene, Brendan accuses his student of being selfish and arrogant. Naz immediately fires back, saying Brendan himself is the one who fostered that attitude.

This movie tells the incredible true story of Naz, a boxer who rose from a difficult childhood in Sheffield to become a world champion and international star in the 1990s. It focuses on his close and surprising bond with his trainer, Brendan Ingle, an Irishman who was key to Naz’s journey and ultimate triumph.

Sylvester Stallone, through his production company Balboa Productions, created this film, which is already being compared to his classic Rocky. Flickering Myth calls it a guaranteed hit with audiences.

According to a review in Variety, the movie is most compelling when it focuses on the complex relationship between Hamed and Ingle, and how their pride, loyalty, and ambition both strengthen and ultimately threaten their connection.

I’m really excited because Giant is coming to UK cinemas on January 9th! I actually got a sneak peek at the BFI London Film Festival back in October, and it’s definitely one to watch.

Katherine Dow Blyton plays Alma Ingle, with Olivia Barrowclough as Vicki Quinn, Elika Ashoori as Caira Hamed, Austin Haynes as Trev, and Rocco Haynes as Mikey completing the cast.

Giant is released in UK cinemas on 9 January 2026.
