Gerard Butler returns as an action hero in the new film, Greenland 2: Migration, facing the challenges of a world after a devastating comet impact. The sequel picks up five years after the first movie, showing what life is like for those who survived in the Greenland bunkers and the new dangers they face as nature fights back. Check out a new clip from the survival thriller below.
Ric Roman Waugh returns to direct Greenland 2: Migration, with Morena Baccarin and Roger Dale Floyd reprising their roles as Allison and Nathan Garrity. The film also stars Amber Rose Revah (known from The Punisher), Roman Griffin Davis (Jojo Rabbit), William Abadie (Homeland), Trond Fausa Aurvåg (Oppenheimer), and Tommie Earl Jenkins (Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning), joining Gerard Butler. Greenland 2: Migration is scheduled for release in theaters on January 9, 2026, and the official story details are available below.
After a devastating comet impact leaves most of Earth in ruins, Greenland 2: Migration follows the Garrity family—Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, and Roman Griffin Davis—as they venture out of their safe bunker to find a new place to live in a broken world.
Gerard Butler Faces the Post-apocalypse in ‘Greenland 2: Migration’
The new footage shows John Garrity, played by Gerard Butler, walking with his family through a deserted landscape when he senses something is terribly wrong. He notices strange vibrations – almost like a superpower – and quickly realizes smaller comets are heading straight for them, forcing his family to hold on tight. The clip hints at both the close relationships within the family and the immense dangers they’ll face, and it’s left us eager to see how Butler and his family navigate this post-apocalyptic world.
Critics generally liked Greenland, calling it a thrilling and exciting survival movie with a fun, low-budget feel. Despite the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, the film did reasonably well in theaters, earning over $52 million worldwide on a $35 million budget.
Fans have been eagerly anticipating the return of Gerard Butler and the Garrity family in a new adventure. Though it took five years for Greenland 2: Migration to come out, the producer suggests the third film, Greenland 3, will arrive much sooner – and promises a surprising twist!
Filming finished in July, and I recently saw a rough cut of the movie, which is exciting. It’s a real accomplishment for everyone who worked on it. With a $90 million budget, it’s exactly the kind of large-scale film we’d like to attract more of to Europe. We’re now discussing distribution and what comes next. There’s a potential challenge with the second film, but I’m confident we’ll be able to resolve it.
