The new series, Spartacus: House of Ashur, is now streaming globally. It’s a standalone story set in the world of the original Spartacus: Blood and Sand from 2010, but with a fresh take. While connected to the original, it only features three returning characters and two of the original actors, focusing on the backstory of Ashur, a former Syrian gladiator.
As a huge fan of historical dramas, I was really intrigued by this take on the Roman world. Nick E. Tarabay is back, and it’s fascinating to see his character live on after the Spartacus revolt – he actually ends up running the gladiator school after his old boss is gone. But honestly, House of Ashur feels like a completely fresh story, even though it shares the same world as the original show. It’s not just more of the same, and that’s what excited me most!
While Spartacus is still a standout historical TV series known for its action and depiction of life in the late Roman Republic, House of Ashur offers even deeper understanding of the political maneuvering happening at the time.
Beyond Ashur and his fighters, the show features members of Rome’s powerful upper class and those around them. We also meet the slaves who aren’t involved in arena combat. Together, the characters in Spartacus: House of Ashur offer a broad look at Roman society just before the Republic collapsed.

Graham McTavish is known for his roles in popular films like Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy, Creed (where he played the trainer of Pretty Ricky Conlan), and the 2008 Rambo remake. Tenika Davis as Achillia

Active Since: 2009
Tenika Davis is gaining recognition for her leading role in House of Ashur after appearing in smaller parts on shows like Jupiter’s Legacy and Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities. Her powerful performance as Achillia has been a central focus of the series’ marketing, and rightfully so.

Jordi Webber as Tarchon

Jordi Webber, a New Zealand actor who first gained recognition in the TV series Power Rangers Ninja Steel, has primarily worked in television. However, his leading role as Jack Menna in the 2023 interactive romantic comedy Choose Love has brought him international attention.

Let me tell you about Tarchon from Spartacus: House of Ashur. This guy is a real standout – a young gladiator with incredible fighting skills, but also a knack for finding trouble. He’s got a fiery personality, and honestly, it looks like the show is setting him up as the main romantic interest for a while. He’s definitely one to watch!
Jamaica Vaughan as Hilara
Year Of Birth: 1995

- Active Since: 2011
Jamaica Vaughan’s role in Spartacus: House of Ashur, which has earned a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, could be her big break in Hollywood. While she played Naomi Stevens on the soap opera Home and Away, the New Zealand-based actor isn’t widely known, even back home.

Claudia Black as Cossutia

Claudia Black is a sci-fi star known for her roles as Aeryn Sun in Farscape, Vala Mal Doran in the Stargate series, and Klothow in Star Wars: Ahsoka. She’s no stranger to action and historical dramas either, having previously appeared in Hercules: The Legendary Journeys in the late 1990s, and now Spartacus: House of Ashur.

Cossutia is a high-society woman in House of Ashur – the wife of a Roman senator named Gabinius and the mother of the popular young woman, Viridia. In the early parts of the story, she’s a key player, constantly plotting to improve her social standing and willing to use anyone and anything – including her family and connections – to get ahead, no matter the consequences.
Spartacus: House Of Ashur Supporting Cast & Characters

Ivana Baquero as Messia – Hilara’s fellow house slave in Ashur’s villa.
I’m completely captivated by Leigh Gill’s portrayal of Satyrus! He’s the powerful leader of the Brothers Ferox, a really impressive group of gladiators. They’re from the House of Proculus, which makes them fierce rivals to the House of Ashur – it adds so much tension to the story!
India Shaw-Smith as Viridia – The naive daughter of Cossutia and Gabinius.
Evander Brown as Ephesius – A gladiator who’s among the best fighters of the House of Ashur.
Jaime Slater as Cornelia – The rich, powerful and machiavellian wife of Julius Caesar.
Dan Hamill plays Celadus, Tarchon’s father. Celadus is calmer and kinder than his son, but he’s not as strong as he used to be in arena battles because he’s getting older.
Andrew McFarlane plays Gabinius, a Roman senator who participated in the political corruption common during the late Roman Republic.
Lucy Lawless plays Lucretia, the widow of a former gladiator school owner and master named Quintus Lentulus Batiatus. She reprises her role from the series Spartacus and its follow-ups in the first episode of House of Ashur.
Jackson Gallagher plays Gaius Julius Caesar, a famous Roman general and leader, shown here as a young, determined man. The role was previously played by Todd Lasance in the series Spartacus: Blood and Sand.
