Pokémon Unite Mega Gyarados Movesets

Basic Attack

Has the user lunge towards opposing Pokémon, dealing damage to them.

Passive ability

Mega Gyarados’s abilities change depending on its form: Normal, Evolved, or Mega Evolved. Here’s a breakdown of those abilities:

  • Swift Swim (Magikarp Form): When the Pokémon uses a move, its movement speed increases for a short time. Each time the Pokémon with this Ability knocks out an opposing Pokémon, scores a goal, or otherwise makes a contribution in battle, its Effort gauge increases. Once the effort gauge is full, the Pokémon evolves into Gyarados.
  • Intimidate (Gyarados Form): The Pokémon decreases the Attack of opposing Pokémon it damages.
  • Mold Breaker (Mega Gyarados Form): The Pokémon decreases the Defence of opposing Pokémon it damages

Ability 1 – Flail

Flail is a move where the user wildly attacks nearby opposing Pokémon. The damage it deals increases as the user’s HP gets lower.

Dragon Breath

Gyarados gains access to this ability upon evolution. Details about the ability are shown below.

  • Has the user exhale a mighty gust, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon and leaving them paralysed. If the user hits an opposing Pokémon with this move, the user’s basic attacks are boosted for a short time, dealing increased damage with increased basic attack speed. The more opposing Pokémon hit by this move (up to a maximum of 3), the greater the basic attack speed increase.
  • When the user Mega Evolves, its basic attacks will chase down distant opposing Pokémon, but the user will be unable to perform other actions for a short while.
  • Upgrade: Increase the damage dealt by this move and basic attacks.

Ability 2 – Splash

This ability lets you teleport to a specific spot. You can store up to 3 uses of it at a time.

Waterfall

Once it evolves into Gyarados, it will immediately gain access to this ability. Details about the ability are shown below.

  • Has the user charge three times in a row at awesome speed, dealing damage to opposing Pokémon it hits. The user can change direction between each charge. If the second charge hits an opposing Pokémon, the user is granted a shield. If the third charge hits an opposing Pokémon, the opposing Pokémon is thrown.
  • When the user Mega Evolves, this move’s cooldown is reduced every time it lands successfully, and charge effects are granted even on a miss.
  • Upgrade: Decreases the move’s Cooldown.

Unite Move – Dragon Current

This move lets the user dive underwater, becoming untargetable and unable to attack while the button is held. Releasing the button launches the user upwards with an attack. Staying underwater for a certain duration creates a whirlpool at the surface, slowing any opposing Pokémon caught within it.

Staying underwater for a prolonged period causes Gyarados to surface and create a waterspout, damaging and launching opposing Pokémon it hits. After using this move, Gyarados will immediately Mega Evolve into Mega Gyarados.

Pokémon Unite Mega Gyarados Gameplay Tips

This guide will show you how to play Mega Gyarados effectively in Pokémon Unite and create a winning strategy. We’ll cover both the early and late stages of the game, so be sure to read through the whole guide.

Early Game

At the beginning of the game, Mega Gyarados starts as the weak Mapikarp, so focus on playing it safe and earning experience to evolve it quickly. Use the move Splash to move around the map – you can jump to get the final hit on enemies, move away when attacked, or quickly cross small obstacles. Only use Flail when no enemies are close by, as it’s not a good move for trading hits early on.

Okay, so once I finally evolve into Gyarados, I immediately get two new abilities that seriously boost my attack power – which is awesome for getting a head start! Basically, the more I fight – getting attacks, helping teammates, knocking out opponents, or grabbing points – the faster my Effort gauge fills up. That means I need to focus on doing those things to evolve quickly and become super strong right away.

Focus on helping your team’s attacker get resources quickly and defeat powerful early-game Pokémon like Rotom, Regiligie, and Regice as soon as you can. This will help your team level up fast and secure important wins.

Mid and Late Game

Once you evolve, your kit becomes incredibly strong offensively. The best combo to use is Dragon Breath followed by Waterfall, as it provides both movement and a quick burst of damage, making it easy to chase down opponents. Start by using Dragon Breath, aiming to hit several enemies to boost your attack speed. Then, use Waterfall to dash in and deal significant damage after paralyzing them. Landing 2 or 3 charged Waterfall attacks gives you shields or throws, which can help you win fights.

When a team fight is about to start, use Gyarados’s Unite Move to surprise and quickly defeat opponents. If you time it right, Mega Gyarados becomes untargetable while underwater, letting you avoid powerful attacks and get behind key enemies. Alternatively, instantly activating the Unite Move slows and damages a wide area. Either way, Gyarados’s Unite Move is incredibly useful when fighting over important objectives like Groudon and Regidragon.

Once you transform into Mega Gyarados, take advantage of its increased power and play confidently. Your first move weakens the enemy’s defense, making it easier for your team to defeat them. Your second move can now reliably hit distant targets while boosted, letting you pursue and finish off opponents.

Positioning of Mega Gyarados

Mega Gyarados performs best in the top or bottom lane. Players should focus on defeating Aipoms and Audinos to gain experience quickly. It’s also beneficial to eliminate as many Combees and Vespiqueen as possible, as they provide a good amount of experience and make leveling up easier.
