The new comedy, “Oh. What. Fun.”, is quickly becoming a hit on streaming platforms. Directed by Michael Showalter, the film centers around Michelle Pfeiffer’s character, a mom who feels overlooked and goes missing during the holidays, disrupting her family’s Christmas. The movie boasts a fantastic cast, including Felicity Jones, Chloë Grace Moretz, Maude Apatow, Denis Leary, Dominic Sessa, Havana Rose Liu, Jason Schwartzman, Joan Chen, and Eva Longoria.
Reviews for Oh. What Fun. have been mostly negative, resulting in a low 38% score on Rotten Tomatoes. Viewers haven’t been much more positive, giving the film a 36% rating on the site’s audience score platform.
Despite mixed reviews, Oh. What. Fun. quickly became popular on Prime Video, reaching the top spot in the U.S. on December 5th, only two days after it was released.
According to data from FlixPatrol, “Oh. What. Fun.” has become a global number one hit, reaching the top spot in nine countries: Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Mexico, New Zealand, Canada, and Australia.
Several things appear to be helping ‘Oh. What. Fun.’ recover from its initial negative response. The most significant is likely that the Michelle Pfeiffer film it’s associated with just came out.
Recently released movies and shows often get a lot of promotion on streaming services and quickly attract viewers. For example, the U.S. charts currently feature the action-comedy Playdate (ranked #3) and After the Hunt (ranked #6), both of which premiered on Prime Video just last month.
Titles with a Christmas or holiday theme often become popular as December 25th approaches. Each year, both new movies and classic holiday favorites see a jump in views during December.
Currently, Christmas movies make up half of the top movies in the U.S. This includes classics like How the Grinch Stole Christmas (released in 2000 and currently at No. 2), as well as newer films like Red One (2024, No. 4) and Candy Cane Lane (2023, No. 9). Even the 1954 film White Christmas is still popular, landing at No. 10.
Given that these songs are popular during a specific time of year, “Oh. What. Fun.” might quickly drop off the charts after December. It’s uncertain if it will reappear on the charts during the 2026 holiday season. While Red One has a low Tomatometer score of 30%, it did chart again this year, likely due to its strong audience score of 89% (Verified Hot).
