Human Derived Protein (HDP) In Pluribus: What’s In The Milk Cartons?

Pluribus has revealed what the mysterious “Others” were drinking from milk cartons – they’re consuming HDP.

At the end of Pluribus episode 5, Carol discovered the “Afflicted Others” were consuming a strange liquid from milk cartons. Determined to uncover the truth, she investigated and tracked the source to a cold storage facility where the liquid appeared to be made.

Wow, episode 5 left me totally hanging with Carol discovering something big, but episode 6 of Pluribus really delivered! It turned out she found actual human remains – body parts, frozen and stored away. It was horrifying to learn The Others were preserving them like that, clearly intending to… well, eat them. It was a disturbing reveal, to say the least.

The Liquid In The Milk Cartons Contains Human-Derived Protein (HDP) Among Other Things

Once Carol discovered the Others were surviving by consuming human remains, she went to Las Vegas to find Diabaté. He shocked her by admitting he’d known about this disturbing practice for a while. He even showed her a video of John Cena, who is one of the Others, explaining that those infected were having trouble getting enough to eat.

Because of their strong beliefs against harming living creatures for food, this group was not getting enough calories. They discovered that using protein derived from deceased humans didn’t conflict with their principles. So, they began using HDP (Human-Derived Protein) from the deceased to meet their daily protein needs.

In the Apple TV sci-fi series, John Cena’s character reassures Carol that they don’t want to resort to cannibalism, but the extreme food shortage has left them with no alternative. He explains that, besides the HDP, the liquid they get from milk cartons contains nutrients from other available food sources, helping them meet their daily nutritional needs.

Despite Finding An Efficient Energy Source, The Others Are Still Struggling To Ensure Their Survival

Diabaté informs Carol that the Others are running dangerously low on food and face widespread starvation soon. He explains that he and other immune people – everyone except the man from Paraguay – have been meeting to try and find a way to help, but so far, they haven’t come up with a workable solution.

With these new events in Pluribus, the Others’ only hope appears to be finding a way to reverse the infections. Because Carol and the man from Paraguay are the only known immune people fighting against the spread of happiness, they must quickly find a solution before it’s too late.
