Sony has unexpectedly released a mobile version of its popular baseball game, MLB The Show. MLB The Show Mobile Baseball is now available for both Android and iOS devices, after initially being tested in the Philippines.

I’m seeing a lot of buzz about this, and honestly, it makes total sense! For those wondering why everyone’s excited, it’s because the MLB The Show series has always been a console thing – it’s been that way since MLB 06. So seeing it finally come to mobile is a really cool feeling for long-time fans like me.

MLB The Show features over 1,000 player cards, 30 MLB stadiums, and full gameplay control

The mobile game, created by San Diego Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, offers a lot of content. Players can collect from over a thousand different cards, including those featuring legends like Ken Griffey Jr., Hank Aaron, and Mickey Mantle.

The game will feature complete control over batting, pitching, and fielding. You’ll be able to play in 30 authentic MLB stadiums, brought to life with over 16,000 animations. A new Momentum system adds a layer of strategy, impacting real-time decisions you make while players are running the bases.

The game offers both traditional best-of-3 player-versus-player matches and a special mode where you can recreate famous moments from Major League Baseball history. You can also advance by completing daily and limited-time challenges, purchasing the Show Pass, and trading cards with other players in a robust marketplace.

While the announcement is exciting, development of the mobile version began way back in 2022. Clues first appeared in job postings during the time of MLB The Show 22, which indicated Sony was looking to expand into mobile gaming, and that the game might be part of that plan.

Last year, Sony hinted at expanding its mobile gaming efforts, including the possibility of bringing popular PlayStation games to phones and experimenting with free-to-play models. The recent release of MLB The Show on mobile suggests they’re heading in the right direction.

Currently, the game is only available in the Philippines as part of a limited initial release. A worldwide launch is coming soon! In the meantime, you can download it on the Google Play Store for Android devices and the App Store for iPhones and iPads.
