‘The Beatles’ Event Film Adds Epic Ensemble Cast

The upcoming four-part film series about The Beatles has added several new actors to its cast. Sony Pictures announced on Thursday that David Morrissey (known for The Walking Dead), Keanne Best (Walk-In), James Norton (Happy Valley), Harry Lloyd (The Theory of Everything), Bob Schofield (The Covenant), Daniel Hoffmann-Gill (Sherwood), Arthur Darvill (Broadchurch), and Adam Pally (Happy Endings) will all appear. Each actor will play a character who has a significant connection to one of the Beatles.

According to Deadline, the cast is filling out for the upcoming Beatles biopic. Morrisey will portray Paul McCartney’s father, Jim McCartney, and Best will play John Lennon’s Aunt Mimi. Norton will take on the role of the band’s manager, Brian Epstein, while Lloyd will play legendary producer George Martin. Schofield will be Neil Aspinall, the band’s road manager and close friend, and Hoffmann-Gill will play roadie Mal Evans. Darvill will portray Derek Taylor, a friend of the band, and Pally will play Allen Klein, a sometimes controversial music manager. All four films will be directed by Sam Mendes, promising an in-depth look at the personal lives of each of the Beatles.

In addition to Paul Mescal playing Paul McCartney, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, and Harris Dickinson as John Lennon, the upcoming Beatles films will also star Mia McKenna-Bruce, Saoirse Ronan, Anna Sawai, and Aimee Lou Wood. The project, which consists of four separate movies each with a different writer and filmed back-to-back, appears to be a complex undertaking. With filming scheduled to begin within the next 15 months, as Barry Keoghan mentioned, it will be fascinating to see who else joins the already large cast.

Although the four upcoming Beatles movies aren’t scheduled to be released until April 2028, filming is beginning now due to the extensive preparation needed for such a large project. This is a unique event for several reasons, notably because it’s the first time The Beatles and Apple Corps Ltd. have officially allowed their life stories and music to be used in scripted films. Director Sam Mendes’ previous film, 2022’s Empire of Light, received generally unfavorable reviews, earning a 44% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The upcoming four-film project about The Beatles boasts a talented production team, including cinematographer Greig Fraser, known for his stunning work on films like Dune and The Batman. While details about the release dates, viewing order, and how the films connect are still unclear, the exciting new cast makes The Beatles — A Four-Film Event a truly special and anticipated theatrical release.
