How Fallout Season 2 Handles New Vegas Endings Confirmed

I’ve seen a lot of shows based on video games, but this one really stands out. So many adaptations try to completely reinvent things, like The Last of Us and Halo, but this series takes a different path. It doesn’t try to be something it’s not; it really understands the source material and builds from that foundation.

Adapting a video game’s established story into a television series requires a delicate touch, says the showrunner, Geneva Robertson-Dworet.

According to writer Geneva Robertson-Dworet, the time jump in the Fallout series made her job simpler. She explains that the story is set 15 years after the games, and the team intentionally avoided declaring any single game ending as the official one.

We decided to treat the history of the Wasteland like a ‘fog of war’ – meaning it’s unclear and depends on perspective. After fifteen years, there’s no central news source or government to provide a definitive account. Who controls the Hoover Dam, for example, depends entirely on who you ask and the stories they’ve heard within the Wasteland.

The show is set 15 years after the events of the games, and features many of the same groups. However, as time passes, history evolves, and things aren’t quite as fans remember them. We’re hoping viewers will be interested to see how we’ve reimagined these familiar groups.

What Is Fallout’s Canon New Vegas Ending?

So is , even if history is murky? The show’s creators would rather not say.

Jonathan Nolan, Graham Wagner, Todd Howard, and I had a conversation very early on – around 2020, before we began Season 1 – about wanting to create games that all took place within the same timeline. However, since players can have different experiences and endings based on their choices, many people have actually seen different outcomes.

Our goal was to respect each player’s unique experience with the games and avoid contradicting how they ended the story. So, instead of declaring one ending as the ‘official’ one, we’ve moved the story forward in time. Over time, and with everything that’s happened since, the specific ending players received becomes less important. That’s how we aim to honor everyone’s individual journey through the game.

It’s challenging, but the creators of the Fallout TV show are committed to staying true to the unique feel of each original game. You can see how they’ve done it when Fallout Season 2 premieres on Prime Video December 17th. Season 1 is currently available to stream on Prime Video.
