Avatar’s Future After Fire & Ash Addressed By Sam Worthington: “This Was Always The Final Battle”

Actor Sam Worthington recently discussed the future of the Avatar movies following the release of Avatar: Fire and Ash. While James Cameron had planned to make two more Avatar films, he’s now indicated he might step away from the series if the next movie isn’t successful.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Sam Worthington discussed James Cameron’s statements, suggesting that more Avatar movies aren’t a certainty. The actor who plays Jake Sully believes the planned Fire and Ash film feels like a definite conclusion to the story. Here’s what he had to say:

I agree with Jim. You’re looking for a movie that really resonates with you, and it’s always stressful letting go of a film and seeing how it’s received. We’ll have to wait and see how this one does. As Jake Sully said in Avatar 2, ‘This is where we make our stand,’ which suggests we know what to expect. For me, this has always been the climactic battle, the ultimate confrontation.

Jim has some thoughts on how to continue the story, but he’s also wrapped things up nicely with these two films. He originally envisioned it as a single movie, and it seems like he wanted to give it his all and then see what happens next.

More to come…
