Passion UA vs M80: Battle for the best breakthrough at the Budapest Major

Few predicted these teams would advance so far in the CS2 Major, but against the odds, they’ve made it. Now, these underdogs are competing for a place among the best Counter-Strike teams globally.

When Passion UA first joined the BLAST Rivals 2025 competition in Hong Kong, no one expected much from them. However, they quickly made an impression by defeating The MongolZ and putting up a strong fight against the highly-ranked Team Falcons.

This is CS2 Passion UA’s first major tournament appearance since the team was formed in 2023. They aren’t considered contenders to win a Major championship.

M80 is representing North America at the tournament in Budapest. Their 3-0 win in the first stage was unexpected, considering they hadn’t performed well recently. Before this Major, M80 had only competed in one major tournament this season – they qualified for the BLAST Open Fall 2025, but finished in last place. Notably, they did manage to defeat NAVI during the qualifying rounds.

Passion UA is the underdog in this match, while M80 is expected to win. Reaching Stage 3 of the Budapest Major 2025 is a significant achievement for both teams.

Making this far: M80 and Passion UA at the StarLadder Major 2025 in Budapest

Passion UA entered the Major tournament as one of the teams competing in Stage 2. They began their run by facing some of the best Counter-Strike 2 players, and while they lost to FaZe Clan, they put up a strong fight and made the matches very competitive.

In the most recent single-elimination match, PUA beat MIBR. They then played two best-of-three series, losing to 3DMAX but defeating Fnatic.

M80 began the tournament with a strong performance in Stage 1, winning all three of their matches against B8, PARAVISION, and NRG. Both B8 and PARAVISION have advanced to Stage 3. Now in the current stage, M80 has defeated Astralis and Fnatic, but suffered losses to Aurora and TYLOO.

The players who advanced will face tougher competition in Stage 3. They’ll immediately be matched up against teams that performed better in earlier rounds. These matches, using the Swiss System format, will take place from December 4th to 7th.
