Fans discuss alleged continuity errors in Stranger Things Season 5

After Episode 4, titled “Sorcerer,” faced criticism, viewers pointed out a continuity error. The episode showed Will fondly remembering building Castle Byers with his brother Jonathan on a bright, sunny day. However, this happy memory clashes with Jonathan’s much more somber description of the same event in Season 2, leading to immediate backlash.

In the episode “The Mind Flayer,” Jonathan shares a memory with Will, who is under the Mind Flayer’s control, describing how they built a fort on the night their father, Lonnie, permanently moved out. They worked in heavy rain and then got sick. Viewers immediately noticed the contrast between this story and previous accounts.

A fan on X (formerly Twitter) pointed out that Jonathan recalled building Castle Byers with Will during a downpour, which left them both sick for a week. The fan also questioned why the boys didn’t seem more upset on the day their father moved out.

Viewers have noticed another mistake in Stranger Things Season 5. Joyce says Will was eleven years old when he went missing, but a missing persons poster from Season 1 actually states he was twelve. This is just one of a few continuity errors fans have pointed out.

This recent event has brought attention back to a previous mistake, often called “Birthdaygate.” In Season 4, the show incorrectly implied Will’s birthday was not on March 22nd. The creators, the Duffer brothers, have already admitted this was an oversight.

Some viewers have suggested the flashback to Castle Byers might be a happy memory from before the rain, but most online agree it was a mistake. With five seasons filmed over almost ten years, these kinds of errors are bound to happen. However, the show’s passionate fans are quick to notice even the smallest inconsistencies.

With Volume 2 releasing on December 25, viewers will be watching every frame for further clues.
