Bucks Fizz Jay’s home bid falls flat with locals

It’s common for famous singers to buy homes in the countryside once they become wealthy. However, they aren’t always welcomed by the locals.

Jay Aston, best known for winning Eurovision with Bucks Fizz in 1981, is reportedly causing friction with neighbors due to her plans to convert a barn on her property in Surrey.

Sixty-four-year-old singer, and the performer of ‘Making Your Mind Up’, is already renting out a small apartment on her property. The ‘cosy retreat’ can accommodate up to four guests for £65 per night, alongside her husband, David Colquhoun.

The owners are seeking permission to turn a barn into a home, including an open-plan kitchen, family and living areas, a home office, parking for two cars, and a small garden. They’ve asked the local council to approve the change in how the land is used, but nearby residents are objecting to the proposal.

I’m concerned about this new planning application because we recently successfully objected to a similar one on our road. That previous application also proposed changing land for housing, and we were glad it was refused. We chose to live here because of the area’s rural feel, and each approved change to residential use erodes that character and sets a worrying precedent for the future of our lane.

One resident raised concerns that the proposed development could negatively affect the local environment and existing infrastructure.

The property is reached by a narrow, already damaged track. It gets very muddy and often flooded when it rains. More vehicles using the track would likely cause further damage and create safety risks for people walking, riding horses, and those who live nearby.

Council officials will make their minds up later this month.

Let me tell you, launching The House of Sisters Grimm in London’s West End hasn’t been easy! We, as the founders, really went through the wringer. We were hit with a major fraud – after months of negotiations, a key financial agreement fell through, and the person responsible is now facing serious legal consequences. Honestly, it’s been a rollercoaster of funding challenges, disappointments, and even some tricky immigration hurdles. It’s a massive risk, a real gamble putting everything on the line, but we’re hoping all the hard work will truly pay off and that audiences will love what we’ve created.

The 27-year-old actress recently shared that she was attacked by a stranger in London just before an audition. This happened a few months after someone tried to steal her phone, which she managed to defend against at a cafe in February.

I still hang out with people, but only my close friends now,” she explained. “I was bullied because of my looks. It’s like when people see someone who’s attractive, they immediately want something from them.”

‘And if they can’t have you, they want to prove that they’ve got some power over you.’
