The Back to the Future Trilogy Is Streaming Free

A beloved sci-fi trilogy from the 1980s – a golden age for the genre – is now available to stream for free. While some fans miss the original platform, you can now watch all three movies on Pluto TV.

Pluto TV is adding some exciting action movies for the holidays, including all three Back to the Future films! Starting today, you can stream Back to the Future (1985), Back to the Future Part II (1989), and Back to the Future Part III (1990) for free, along with other blockbuster hits like the Transformers movies.

Robert Zemeckis directed the entire Back to the Future trilogy. The films star Michael J. Fox as teenager Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as the quirky scientist Dr. Emmett Brown. Lea Thompson plays Marty’s mother, Lorraine, in the first two movies and his ancestor, Maggie, in the third.

As a huge movie fan, I absolutely love the Back to the Future trilogy. It all starts with Marty and Doc going back in time from the ’80s to the ’50s, and Marty almost prevents his parents from meeting – which would mean he’d never be born! Then, they jump ahead to 2015 in the second movie to help Marty’s future son. And finally, in the third film, it’s a wild ride way back to 1885 as they try to save Doc from a really unexpected situation. It’s just a fantastic series!

Back to the Future Is More Relevant Than Ever

Even though the Back to the Future movies are strongly associated with the 1980s, they continue to be enjoyed by people of all ages. Recently, while celebrating the films’ 40th anniversary, the director shared personal stories about how the movies connected to his own life.

Michael J. Fox believes we’re currently living in a society where bullying is common, from individuals to broader forces. He points out that in his new film, characters like Biff represent this, but even time and his own battle with Parkinson’s disease feel like forms of bullying. Ultimately, he emphasizes the importance of confronting these challenges with courage and determination.

He added that the film really highlights people’s strength and bravery, which is something many are connecting with right now. He believes the movie resonates with audiences because it touches on emotions and experiences they might not even realize they share.

According to producer Gale, director Bob Zemeckis has repeatedly said they have no plans for another Back to the Future movie – no sequels, prequels, or spin-offs. He feels the original trilogy is good enough as it is, stating it doesn’t need to be ‘perfect,’ just ‘perfect enough.’

He explained that even facing extreme pressure – like threats against their families – they wouldn’t agree to revisit certain projects. He emphasized that even someone as powerful as Steven Spielberg understands and respects their decision. Spielberg, he said, wouldn’t allow another sequel to E.T. and similarly supports their choice to leave Back to the Future untouched, and they are grateful for his understanding.

Unfortunately, there won’t be a fourth Back to the Future movie. But the good news is you can currently watch the original three films for free!
