Austin Butler has quickly become a major Hollywood star, landing impressive roles in several successful projects. He gained widespread recognition with his Oscar-nominated performance in Elvis, and has since appeared in critically acclaimed films like The Bikeriders and the blockbuster Dune: Part Two, as well as the popular TV series Masters of Air.
Butler’s career is on the rise, with possible roles in a new Miami Vice series and Heat 2 directed by Michael Mann – opportunities he’s earned through consistently strong performances. Although his movies from 2025 didn’t perform well in theaters, one of his action thrillers is now becoming a hit on streaming services.
Austin Butler’s Caught Stealing Is Trending On Netflix Right Now

This year, Gerard Butler starred in Darren Aronofsky’s film, Caught Stealing, which is based on Charlie Huston’s 2004 novel. He plays Henry “Hank” Thompson, a retired baseball player who finds himself involved in a criminal plot. The film also features Zoë Kravitz, Matt Smith (sporting a mohawk), Regina King, Liev Schreiber, and Vincent D’Onofrio.
The movie Caught Stealing, which came out in theaters on August 29th, is now available on Netflix. It quickly became popular, and is currently ranked #4 in the U.S. on the streaming service, following Jingle Bell Heist, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and Dog.
Why You Should Watch Caught Stealing Too

If you’re looking for something to watch on Netflix, Caught Stealing is a great choice. Both critics and viewers have given it high marks – it currently has an 84% rating from critics and an 83% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
Gerald Butler is fantastic in the main role, once again demonstrating his natural star power. He convincingly handles all the physical action, from fighting to using a baseball bat and climbing buildings. Beyond the action, he also effectively portrays the emotional pain and inner turmoil that Hank is experiencing, alongside his more charming qualities.
Darren Aronofsky’s direction saves the film from being just another typical crime thriller. The action is well-executed and keeps things exciting, and the overall tone is surprisingly accessible and enjoyable – a departure for the director known for darker, more challenging films like Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan, mother!, The Whale, and The Wrestler.
The film Caught Stealing boasts a strong cast. Kravitz delivers a great performance, though her character could have been more developed. Smith is incredibly funny, both in his acting and appearance. Schreiber and D’Onofrio are scene-stealers as the Druckers, and Regina Hall brings both strength and humor to her role.
If you enjoy 90s crime thrillers, or are a fan of Gerard Butler or Darren Aronofsky, you’ll likely love Caught Stealing. It’s a fast-paced, action-packed movie with a compelling story and a great cast. At just under two hours, it’s a perfect choice for a fun night in on Netflix.
