Wonder Woman star Lynda Carter, 74, shares heartbreaking message for late husband on their 42nd anniversary

Lynda Carter, known for playing Wonder Woman, shared a heartfelt message on Instagram Thursday about the passing of her husband.

The 74-year-old television personality shared a photo of herself with her late husband, Robert Altman, marking the date that would have been their 42nd wedding anniversary.

Robert Altman, a former lawyer and video game industry leader, passed away in Baltimore in February 2021 at 73 years old following complications from a medical treatment. He is survived by his two children, Jessica and James.

According to the lounge singer who knew him, Robert Altman was not only a prominent figure, but also a remarkably kind and honorable person. She says anyone who encountered him would agree.

‘”It was a privilege to know him” is oft repeated,’ she added.

Today is a really special day – it’s our 42nd anniversary, and I’m thinking of Robert, the love of my life. Things just haven’t been right since he’s been gone, and I miss him terribly. I’ll always love him.

In 2024, the actress revealed she was still grieving the loss of her loved one. She told People magazine that he was ‘the great love of my life,’ and she thinks about him daily. She often finds herself instinctively wanting to share things with him, saying, ‘Oh Robert will know.’

Even when I’m traveling, like on a flight, I still want him to check in and make sure I arrived safely.

She wrote a song for him called Letters From Earth.

She explained the song is really about the deep ache of missing someone who felt like a constant part of your life, and the difficult realization you may never see them again.

You’re struggling to accept what happened, asking how you can still reach them and where they’ve gone. It doesn’t feel like they’re truly gone—their impact is still everywhere, and so many people still care deeply for them.

Carter shared that he’s been singing for more than 50 years, beginning his career performing in clubs at age 14. He actually started writing songs even before he became an actor.

‘Letters From Earth,’ she says, is a love letter to those we’ve lost.

In 2021 she talked about him on social media.

As I look back at a recent photo, it reminds me of a truly special connection – the kind of passion and unwavering support I believe everyone deserves to experience. It was a relationship built on fiercely protecting and championing each other, always. It’s those bonds that really make life beautiful, don’t you think?

In a recent message, she shared the news of her husband, Robert A. Altman’s, passing one week prior. She described Robert as the love of her life, a sentiment she knows will never change. She also reflected on their 37 years together as an incredible blessing.

The singer recalled a deeply connected relationship, saying, ‘We had a rare and wonderful bond – the kind of love and support everyone deserves. We always had each other’s backs and celebrated each other’s wins.’

Carter then talked about their kids.

We’re so thankful for our two wonderful children, Jessica and James, who have brought so much joy to our lives.

They bring so much happiness to my life, just as they did to Robert’s. Seeing them reminds me so much of him, and I feel like a part of him continues to live on through them, she said.

We – Jessica, James, and I – wanted to express our gratitude. We especially enjoyed hearing about your experiences meeting Robert, whether at concerts or through his gaming work. He truly cherished meeting you and listening to your stories.

She also shared a heartfelt message for her husband, who was born in 1947, saying, ‘You were the most honorable man I ever knew. I was so lucky to be your wife and the mother of our children. Thank you for all the love you brought into my life.’

Lynda concluded by saying, ‘No amount of preparation could have readied our family for this, but we’re committed to pursuing our dreams and remembering everything you stood for. I will always love you.’

Oh my gosh, James’ description of his dad just gets it, you know? He said his dad was unbelievably loyal – like, he’d do anything for his friends. But it wasn’t just that, he just…connected with people immediately. He had this gift for inspiring everyone around him, bringing out their best, and honestly, he was always dropping these little nuggets of wisdom. It felt like he knew everything! I just…I wish I could have met him.

He practiced law in Washington, DC, starting his career at Clifford & Warnke before establishing his own law firm. He also became embroiled in a controversy related to the Bank of Credit and Commerce International.

He then changed careers.

In 1986, Jerry Altman co-founded ZeniMax Media, a video game company known for publishing popular titles like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout.

I was so saddened to hear about the loss of Robert. Bethesda Softworks shared a beautiful tribute, and it really captured who he was – a true visionary who believed in people and what we can achieve when we work together. He was also a wonderful friend, and he’ll be deeply missed.

‘He was an extraordinary leaders, and an even better human being.’

Oh my gosh, can you believe it? It all started back in 2009 when ZeniMax bought id Software – I was SO excited even then! But then, in 2020, everything changed! Microsoft actually bought ZeniMax for $7.5 billion! Seriously, $7.5 BILLION! I nearly fainted. It’s a dream come true for all of us fans!
