‘Home Improvement’s Zachery Ty Bryan arrested again, his sixth arrest over five years

Over the Thanksgiving weekend, Oregon police arrested Zachery Ty Bryan, the actor known for his role on “Home Improvement.” This arrest is the latest in a series of legal issues he’s faced over the past several years.

The Lane County Sheriff’s Office announced on Facebook Monday that former child star Bryan, age 44, was arrested. He and his fiancée, Johnnie Faye Cartwright, were taken into custody Saturday at around 12:30 p.m. after authorities investigated a report of reckless endangerment near a campsite about 30 miles from Eugene.

A couple and their three young children were driving in a pickup truck when the driver, 32-year-old Cartwright, reportedly got out and began walking along the road. According to a statement, Cartwright then allegedly tried to hit Bryan with the truck, causing it to swerve off the road and into a ditch with the children inside. Fortunately, Bryan was able to avoid being hit, and no one in the truck was hurt.

Television

The actor believes the popular sitcom ‘Home Improvement’ isn’t experiencing a resurgence in 90s nostalgia because of Tim Allen’s current political views. He shared this reflection 25 years after the show ended.

According to a statement, deputies noticed signs that both Bryan and Cartwright appeared to be impaired. Representatives for Bryan and Cartwright did not respond to requests for comment from The Times on Monday.

Bryan was arrested Saturday for allegedly violating his probation related to a 2023 domestic violence conviction that resulted in a fourth-degree felony assault charge. Additionally, Cartwright was arrested Saturday and faces charges of attempted assault, putting three people in danger through reckless actions, and driving while intoxicated.

As of Monday, both Bryan and Cartwright were taken into custody. I heard Bryan’s getting released on Wednesday, but there’s no word yet on when – or even if – Cartwright will be let go. It’s a strange situation, and I’m hoping for some clarity soon.

Their three children were placed with a family member, officials said.

Bryan was arrested again on Saturday, making it his sixth arrest in the past five years. Earlier this year, in January, he was arrested in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and accused of domestic violence against a woman named Cartwright. He was released from jail after paying a $10,000 bond, according to People magazine.

California

Singer Ray J, whose full name is Willie Norwood, was arrested on Thanksgiving morning for allegedly making threats, according to police reports.

The actor, known for his role in “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift,” was arrested twice for driving under the influence this year – once in California in February and again in Oklahoma in October. Last year, he was arrested and convicted of assault, specifically a fourth-degree felony. As part of his sentence, he received three years of supervised probation and was required to meet standard conditions for domestic violence cases, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter.

He was previously ordered by the court to not contact the victim without approval from his probation officer, to complete treatment for alcohol and drug abuse, and to stay away from alcohol and drugs. The Lane County Sheriff’s Office alleges Bryan violated this order by contacting the victim, as he was specifically prohibited from doing so.

In 2020, Bryan was arrested and accused of strangling and assaulting his girlfriend. The incident began with an argument, and police reports state he allegedly attacked her, restricted her breathing, and prevented her from calling for help by taking her phone.

The actor is most famous for playing Brad Taylor, the oldest son, on the popular 1990s sitcom “Home Improvement.” The show, which ran on ABC from 1991 to 1999, also starred Tim Allen, Patricia Richardson, Jonathan Taylor Thomas, and Taran Noah Smith. Recently, Patricia Richardson, Richard Karn, and Debbe Dunning joined Tim Allen for an episode of his new show, “Shifting Gears.”
