Helen George and Molly Vevers, stars of Call the Midwife, have hinted at a dramatic stunt in the upcoming Christmas special, comparing it to something out of Mission: Impossible. The popular BBC series will return for its 15th season with two Christmas episodes.
In an episode called “The Christmas Parade,” the residents of Poplar celebrate with a festive parade complete with floats, costumes, and snow.
The official Call the Midwife Instagram page recently gave fans a sneak peek at the upcoming Christmas special, revealing it required a significant amount of planning and filming.

The actress who plays Sister Catherine, Vevers, explained that they needed a stunt coordinator while filming scenes as nuns on the Nonnatus House Christmas parade float.
I had a blast filming the Christmas parade! It was seriously so much fun. Natalie, Renee, and I were all dressed as angels on a float, and it was kinda crazy – we actually needed a stunt coordinator because what we were doing counted as a stunt, apparently!

Once they were secured with the ropes, Vevers joked that it felt like being in an action movie, comparing the experience to Mission: Impossible. He explained they were connected to the float with nearly invisible ropes, allowing them to perform stunts like angels.
George, who plays Trixie Franklin, hinted that a particularly festive episode is coming up. She especially loved the costumes designed by Justine Luxton this year.
George is excited to be in a Christmas parade, riding in a decorated van and wearing amazing costumes.

I’m dressing up as an angel this year, and it’s quickly become my favorite costume ever! It has a fun, retro 1970s vibe. It includes a gorgeous white coat with fluffy fur trim, beautiful angel wings, and lots of sparkly glitter stars.
Honestly, I had a blast getting into costume! This feels like the most festive holiday special we’ve ever made, seriously!
In addition to exciting stunts and a Christmas parade, this two-part special will send some of the crew to Hong Kong, where actress Jenny Agutter hints at some dangerous and potentially deadly situations.
Call the Midwife airs on BBC One and streams on BBC iPlayer.
