Channel 4 has released a sneak peek of Nicola Coughlan in the second series of the critically acclaimed comedy Big Mood. Created and written by Camilla Whitehill, the show will return next year with six new episodes, picking up after a dramatic cliffhanger at the end of its first season.
I’m really excited about this new show! It centers around two best friends, Maggie and Eddie, played by Nicola Coughlan and Lydia West. It follows them as they figure out life in their thirties, and it gets real about mental health – Maggie’s dealing with bipolar disorder, and they show what that’s like. It feels super relatable and honest.
The first season concluded with a painful split between Maggie and Eddie, leaving viewers wondering what would happen next. The final scene showed Eddie driving away in a taxi, while Maggie was left devastated and in tears.
What to Read Next
The second series begins a year after the first, with Eddie returning and introducing his new best friend, Whitney (played by Hannah Onslow). Photos from the new series show Whitney, Maggie, and Eddie in what appears to be an uncomfortable situation. Marcus Collins and Kyran Thrax are also joining the cast and are featured in the released images.
A year has passed since Maggie and Eddie last saw each other, and they haven’t spoken since. They were once best friends.
Eddie’s unexpected return to town for a wedding isn’t a solo trip – he’s brought a girlfriend, Whitney, a relentlessly cheerful spiritual healer who immediately clashes with Maggie.

Will Maggie’s unpredictable nature fit into Eddie’s carefully built new life? Or will Eddie and Maggie drift apart?
IMDb users have given the first season of the show a rating of 6.9 out of 10, based on over 2,000 reviews. Many viewers are hoping it will be renewed for another season.
One fan wrote, “We really need a second season! The finale was so sad and left us all wanting to know what happens next.”
One viewer praised Big Mood as a must-see show, saying they “really hope Tubi renews it for a second season” and that ending it now would be unsatisfying.

One viewer called the show a brilliant portrayal of mental health, friendship, and setting healthy boundaries. They grew very invested in the characters and are eager to see the story’s unresolved ending.
One viewer praised the show for tackling mental health issues in a way that’s both interesting and enjoyable. They also noted the writers clearly know a lot about the topic.
The show didn’t appeal to everyone, with one viewer criticizing it for attempting to find humor in mental illness and lacking originality. They found it generally unfunny and felt the portrayal of bipolar disorder wasn’t accurate.

Big Mood series 2 will air on Channel 4 next year
