BBC Radio breakfast show pulled off air as fire breaks out

A fire at the BBC Scotland studios forced the cancellation of this morning’s breakfast radio show. Firefighters – more than six engines were dispatched – quickly arrived to address the issue.

BBC Radio Scotland temporarily stopped live broadcasting, instead playing pre-recorded music and sharing content from BBC Radio 5 Live. TV news broadcasts from their Glasgow headquarters also had to be paused for several hours.

A fire alarm sounded around 6:30 this morning when a security guard found an air conditioning unit on fire on the fifth floor.

We’re happy to report that all of our team members are safe and sound, and our broadcasts are back up and running. We appreciate everyone who stayed with us while we worked to get things back to normal.

When the broadcast resumed, the hosts apologized for the interruption, saying it had been a busy morning.

They also stated that a nearby hotel provided the BBC staff with coffee and bacon rolls.

So, after the usual small talk, we jumped into talking about what’s going on in the world. Someone made a pretty clever joke about whether the government can actually fix things after the budget announcement last week – like, can they ‘douse the flames’ of the backlash, you know?
