Wayne Lineker is recovering in the hospital after being admitted to intensive care with a severe and life-threatening case of pneumonia. He says the illness has left him temporarily unable to walk.
On Sunday, the 63-year-old owner of O Beach, who is Gary Lineker’s brother, shared a detailed update about his health on his Instagram Stories.
Wayne, living in Ibiza, initially thought he had COVID, then feared a heart attack. Doctors eventually determined he had pneumonia.
Although he’s getting better, he still can’t walk and will need several months of rehab and physical therapy.
Pneumonia is a lung infection that inflames the small air sacs, causing them to fill with fluid. This makes breathing difficult.
Wayne shared that he hesitated to make an announcement because he knew he’d be flooded with supportive messages, and he feels bad when he can’t respond to them all.

I flew from Mauritius to Dubai two weeks ago for a one-year anniversary celebration, and I think I got quite sick on the flight.
I initially thought I had Covid, and it made me feel incredibly sick – I just wanted to go home. I flew back on Friday and went straight to bed to rest. But I woke up at 3 AM and realized I couldn’t stand or walk.
He continued, explaining that he thought he was having a heart attack, so he called his daughter, Tia. She was very upset and immediately contacted her mother, who came to his house. He was then taken by ambulance to the hospital, where he was diagnosed with chronic pneumonia and spent ten days in intensive care.
I’ve recently been transferred to a respiratory ward, and I’m finally feeling well enough to share that I’m able to talk and receive visits from family and close friends.
I recently had a serious bout of pneumonia, which was particularly dangerous given my age. I’m now out of intensive care and recovering in the hospital, though I still can’t walk. I’m facing about two months of rehabilitation and physical therapy to regain my strength.
Wayne’s brother, Gary, is also leaving and will join Netflix with a very profitable deal. He’s scheduled to appear on the streaming service during next year’s World Cup.
After leaving the BBC in May due to a controversial social media post – which featured an image with antisemitic connotations – former England striker Gary Lineker will now host his podcast, ‘The Rest Is Football,’ from North America.
Gary, age 65, had planned to travel to America to lead the BBC’s coverage of the tournament as his last assignment after 25 years with the company. However, that plan was cancelled when he shared the image online.

The podcast used to be available on BBC Sounds, but since the host left, it hasn’t been widely available.
It’s unclear if Alan Shearer and Micah Richards will join him, but they might travel to the US as commentators for the BBC.
According to a source with knowledge of the situation, the popular podcast ‘The Rest is Football’ is currently only available on YouTube and isn’t associated with any traditional TV network or broadcaster.
This is a first for Netflix, and company leaders are calling it a promising development.
Gary is set to earn a substantial amount of money. While the show is very popular, he brought it with him when he departed from the BBC.
This will significantly boost his reputation, and it now seems Gary will be at the World Cup, though in a different role than originally expected.
Gary began working with Match of the Day in 2000 after finishing his football career. He now shares the newest sports news and his work is produced by Goalhanger Podcasts, a company he co-founded in 2022.
After leaving the BBC, he’s set to host a new ITV quiz show called The Box. The show will feature celebrities who are taken to secret locations to compete in a series of challenges.
Gary announced his departure in May and stated he hadn’t seen the image in question, and would never intentionally share anything antisemitic.
He acknowledged his mistake and the distress it caused, and once again apologized. He believes resigning is the right thing to do.
The exact number of people listening to his podcast isn’t public, but in July, ‘The Rest is Football’ reached over 8 million viewers on YouTube.
