Alex Scott reveals she almost didn’t make it out to Australia for I’m A Celebrity after girlfriend Jess Glynne’s beloved mum suffered a major stroke

She was the first I’m A Celeb contestant to be booted out of the jungle.

Alex Scott, a former member of the England women’s football team, shared that she nearly had to pull out of her appearance on a show filmed in the Australian Outback. This was because her girlfriend, Jess Glynne’s mother, Alexandra, had a severe stroke and required urgent brain surgery.

Alex, 41, shared a heartfelt story with the Daily Mail, explaining that singer Jess encouraged her to appear on the ITV show even after receiving upsetting family news. Throughout her time on the show, however, she worried that her mother’s health might deteriorate if her partner wasn’t there to greet her at the iconic jungle bridge.

After leaving the show on Friday, Alex explained it had been a difficult period, especially for the contestant’s family, and that entering the jungle had been a hard choice to make.

Honestly, Jess always encouraged me to keep going, never wanting me to stop. I always worried she might not be okay – especially with her mum’s health being so uncertain, and things actually have been getting harder for them recently. It’s been weighing on my mind.

Turning down that opportunity was tough, but Jess really encouraged me to take this chance instead.

The couple had privately dealt with a family hardship while the singer was competing on the reality show. However, after she was the first contestant eliminated on Friday night, and people wondered why her friend, Ms Glynne, wasn’t there to support her – as is typical for family and friends – the singer finally spoke out about what was happening.

She shared a personal update on Instagram, explaining that her mother recently had a major stroke and required immediate surgery.

My family has been going through a difficult and transformative period, so I’ve been focusing on being there for them. Alex always prioritized being where she was most needed, and I miss having her support. I’m really looking forward to when she can be with me again.

Even though they weren’t present, Jess, 36, and Alex reacted right after the interview with Ant and Dec featuring the former host of Football Focus.

During their phone call, Jess explained to Alex that she was worried about using up all her minutes and also criticized the network for not portraying her personality well.

Jess shared on Instagram that while her partner’s journey ended sooner than expected, she’s incredibly proud of everything they’ve accomplished.

‘She didn’t get the airtime to show how incredible she really is.’

Alex shared that the show’s editors altered her scenes because she felt she came across as uninteresting. She admitted this in a very honest moment.

The actress admitted her personal stories weren’t exciting enough to captivate audiences around the campfire, leaving her feeling overshadowed by more charismatic storytellers like Martin Kemp from Spandau Ballet and comedian Ruby Wax.

Alex added: ‘Maybe I should have shared more stories or a bit more.

Being around such famous people, there were times I felt my own experiences weren’t interesting enough to share, especially compared to someone like Martin Kemp or Ruby Wax.

I’m not sure what made the final cut, but I felt like I really connected with everyone during the game, and I hope that came across. I didn’t want it to just be about football; I wanted people to see my personality and have some fun too.

Jess has seen the final cut of the show, and I haven’t. She thinks the producers might not have shown enough of the fun, lighthearted side – the side she knows I would have brought. But we both understand it’s a TV show, and editing choices are a big part of that.

Honestly, after what feels like forever in the jungle, I’m so ready to get back to London! I’m waiting for everyone else to wrap things up before heading home to my townhouse and, more importantly, back to my girlfriend. It’s been tough being away, and I’m counting down the moments until we’re reunited next week!

She did, however, make a close confidante in Shona McGarty, 34.

Everyone’s been discussing the connection between EastEnders actress and rapper Aitch, 25, on the show, especially after Aitch revealed he likes her.

But Ms Scott cleared up the rumours and explained, ‘We all had a soft spot for Shona’.

It’s incredible to watch her transform. She arrived so quiet and worried, but now she’s confidently singing and making everyone laugh.

We all feel a connection to Shona because she overcame incredible odds. On the first day, she honestly didn’t think she’d be able to succeed, but she pushed through and achieved something amazing.

Ms. McGarty recently ended her nine-year engagement with David Bracken, and she’s been finding it tough since the split, especially as it happened right before she went on the show.
