Hilary Duff calls out Emmy-winning actress for being ‘mean’ and ‘scary’ on set of their classic A Cinderella Story

Hilary Duff recently shared that she was quite scared of Jennifer Coolidge when they filmed the popular movie A Cinderella Story about twenty years ago.

When the movie was filmed, Duff was 15 years old and already well-known as the star of the Disney Channel show, Lizzie McGuire.

Even before working with Duff, Coolidge had already appeared in well-known comedies like American Pie and Legally Blonde. However, her Emmy-winning role in The White Lotus was still several years in the future.

In the 2004 movie, Hilary Duff starred as a modern version of Cinderella, and Jennifer Coolidge played the over-the-top, villainous stepmother.

It turns out Coolidge was so believable during filming that Duff actually felt frightened and had to keep reminding herself it wasn’t real – they were just acting.

Duff described how she fully committed to her work, which he found both impressive and a little scary when he was a teenager.

She remembered being frightened because she was only fifteen and her stepmother was cruel to her, simply because she was ‘evil’.

Duff recalled being very anxious at the moment, demonstrating with a worried expression and deep breaths. He said he had to repeatedly tell himself, “You’re making a movie. You’re making a movie,” to calm down.

This reveal follows Hilary Duff’s recent sharing of her experiences with former Disney Channel stars Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato.

Duff became famous in 2001 when she was 13, starring in the popular TV show Lizzie McGuire, during the show’s most successful period.

Both Gomez and Demi, now 33 years old, first became well-known in the late 2000s: Gomez through the Disney Channel series Wizards of Waverly Place, which started in 2007, and Demi with the TV movie Camp Rock in 2008.

Even though Hilary Duff became famous on the Disney Channel before many other young actresses, she didn’t feel obligated to mentor them.

Hilary Duff recently shared on the podcast Therapuss with Jake Shane that both Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato came to her for advice or help a long time ago, though she doesn’t recall the specific details.

Honestly, it was just so heartwarming! They were incredibly sweet and kind to me, showering me with affection and telling me how much they care. It was exactly the kind of conversation you dream of having – just pure, loving support.

I never felt the need to lead or teach anyone, and honestly, that’s been great. It’s been amazing to see others take the initiative and forge their own paths – it’s been an incredible journey for everyone at Disney.

She’s been sharing her new, suggestive song, ‘Mature,’ explaining it’s like a message from her current self to who she used to be.

Duff shared with People magazine that they and a friend were fondly remembering a past experience, expressing love and appreciation for how things turned out. It was a lighthearted moment of gratitude for finding solid ground.

While Hilary Duff didn’t officially mentor Demi Lovato or Selena Gomez, she’s often shared general advice with up-and-coming artists.

She told Forbes in 2016 that people often feel a lot of pressure to achieve success and be the best, but it’s okay if things don’t work out perfectly right away.

The young actress encouraged people to keep taking risks and pursuing opportunities, even if their first job isn’t perfect. She emphasized the importance of being brave and putting yourself forward.

It can help you achieve your goals, or unexpectedly lead you down a path that’s even better suited for you.

Someone once asked Duff if she’d choose to go through her childhood as a celebrity again, and she said she would.

While I might make a few different choices if I could relive my life, I wouldn’t change anything fundamentally. I’m happy with where I am today, and I realize that even difficult experiences have led me here, so I wouldn’t risk altering the past, even if I could, the ‘How I Met Your Father’ star explained to Cosmopolitan.

The mother of four admitted she wished she’d had more opportunities for education, and specifically, a chance to go to college.

She wondered what achieving her goals would actually be like, admitting that the result wouldn’t be what she initially imagined, given her background and personality.

Duff admitted it feels strange to think about how others see him, but he believes that part of himself is essential to living a genuine life.

I consider myself intelligent, but I recognize there are gaps in my knowledge simply because I haven’t lived through certain experiences. I’ve also learned things others haven’t, but I don’t dwell on those differences.
