A cybersecurity professional shared some of the most frightening online security incidents he’s seen, and highlighted the common errors that leave people vulnerable.
Kevin Leyes started two online security businesses, LeyesX and Babys. Babys specifically helps people who create adult content stay safe online.
The 25-year-old Argentinian entrepreneur explained to the Daily Mail that his companies protect high-profile clients like billionaire CEOs and world leaders – and even some tech industry figures – who have faced serious risks of losing their fortunes.
He explained that in one instance, a famous person’s phone was copied when someone illegally took control of their mobile account in a SIM-swap attack.
‘The attackers gained access to email, bank accounts, and digital wallets.
We quickly identified the security issue, worked with our mobile carrier, secured our digital wallet services, and resolved the problem in less than six hours.

Kevin said that without his company’s intervention, ‘the loss would have exceeded seven figures.’
That’s why having your own security systems is so important – don’t depend on phone companies to keep you safe.
He remembered a case involving a famous client who was threatened with the release of explicit photos unless they paid money. He was able to find where the threat originated – a folder stored online in the cloud.
They successfully removed the files through legal channels and confirmed their complete destruction, according to the source.
We often find that leaked information appears online due to actions by ex-employees or overzealous fans. Our job is to legally take it down and ensure it stays removed.
Kevin remembered a case where an adult content creator’s account was hacked in a single night. The hacker quickly changed her email, phone number, and recovery details – all within minutes.
He explained that she could lose $120,000 each month from her subscriptions, and also the loyal community she’d worked so hard to create over the years.
A hacker tricked someone with a fake verification link, but the account was quickly restored – within 24 hours.

He also mentioned other scams he’s witnessed, where fans have spent large amounts of money on used clothing falsely claimed to be from the celebrities they admire.
Or people who waste ten thousand dollars on a very short, private video call with someone who’s scamming them.
Kevin explained that while millionaires are prime targets for these cyber attacks, anyone can become a victim.
‘Most people underestimate how exposed they already are,’ he warned.
People often believe their stolen data is hidden deep within the dark web, but it’s usually readily available on public databases that anyone can purchase for just a few dollars.
‘Your address, phone number, and even your children’s school information are already out there.
As someone who really cares about staying safe online, I’ve noticed the biggest problems tend to be really basic. Things like using the same password everywhere, keeping important details in old email drafts, mixing up my work and personal devices, and just not bothering to check my privacy settings – those are the things that worry me the most.
Ugh, seriously, the biggest things that freak me out are people just spilling everything online – like, way too much personal info! And using public Wi-Fi to buy stuff? Total nightmare fuel! Then there are those fake links pretending to be security things… so easy to fall for, and then boom, you’re compromised. But the worst part is when people think just because something says it’s private, they’re actually safe. It’s like, no! Privacy isn’t the same as security, people! It drives me crazy seeing this stuff happen.

We frequently demonstrate to clients how much information about them is publicly available, and it usually surprises them. Their reactions speak for themselves, he added.
‘Awareness is the first step, but prevention is where true peace of mind begins.’
Kevin understands scams firsthand – he lost $45,000 to them before launching his cybersecurity businesses. This personal experience drives his work.
He lost a significant amount of money four years ago after falling victim to scams he encountered in online games, forums, and tempting but unrealistic offers.
I lost a total of $45,000 – $5,000 to a scam involving NFTs and another $40,000 to a fraudulent automated trading program. That whole experience was a turning point for me, he said.
You know, I always believed that if I could grasp how these scams and tricks worked, I had the know-how to create something that would actually stop them. It was a natural progression for me – understanding the problem meant I could build the solution. It’s all about leveraging knowledge, really.
Instead of dwelling on the difficult experience, Kevin used it as a chance to grow and immediately started LeyesX in 2021.
