Zootropolis 2 creators explain intriguing post-credit scene: “It could go on forever”

Zootropolis 2 post-credits spoilers follow.

The new movie Zootropolis 2 (known as Zootopia 2 in the US and many other countries) is currently in theaters and has been well-received by both audiences and critics. While a third movie isn’t officially planned, the scene after the credits suggests one might be in the works.

A feather appearing on Judy’s windowsill hints that the next movie will explore the absence of birds from this world, similar to how the previous film explained why reptiles were ostracized.

In a recent interview with Polygon, co-director Jared Bush explained that their main goal is for audiences to leave the theater saying, ‘That was fantastic! I’d love to see more!’

When we made this movie, we really focused on building out the world of Zootopia in a way that feels open-ended. We wanted to give fans a solid foundation so they could imagine even more possibilities and expand the universe themselves. That’s honestly what we’re aiming for every time we revisit this world – to inspire creativity!

“There’s so much room still to play in the world of Zootopia,” co-head of story Carrie Liao added.

I’m curious if Zootopia will show us other animals and real-world places I’d like to explore, just like it has so far.

Byron Howard, one of the directors, believes the story has limitless potential thanks to the rich world they’ve built. He also feels that a love for animals is a universal connection, bringing people together regardless of their background or where they live.

It’s really enjoyable to watch how the city of Zootopia works, with its huge population of animals, each with their own unique lives and paths.

“So yeah, I think it could go on forever,” he concluded.

Zootropolis 2/Zootopia 2 is out in cinemas now.
