Warning! This article contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Stranger Things season 5, part 1.
Vecna returns for the last season of Stranger Things, but he looks quite different now. As the group gets ready for their final battle against the evil forces of the Upside Down, they’re desperately searching for him.
The team has carefully explored many areas of the Upside Down, creating maps and searching for the main monster, but they haven’t been successful. However, in the fourth episode of Stranger Things season 5, Vecna unexpectedly appears in the real world, and he seems changed.
Vecna’s New Look In Stranger Things Season 5 Explained

Season four of Stranger Things showed that Vecna wasn’t always a monster – he used to be a normal-looking man named Henry Creel. He was the very first child brought to the lab and used in experiments designed to develop his abilities. They called him Number One, and before Eleven, he was the most powerful person there.
Driven by jealousy and a need to remain unchallenged, he attacked everyone else in the lab, leaving only Eleven alive. She managed to defeat him, sending him flying into the Upside Down, where he was transformed into a monstrous creature as he fell – burning, breaking apart, and completely changing his form.
In season 4 of Stranger Things, Vecna still appeared somewhat human, though with severe scarring and visible muscles. However, by season 5, he’s lost much more of his human form and now resembles the terrifying creatures of the Upside Down.
Vecna Looks Like An Evil Version Of Groot In Stranger Things Season 5

Vecna’s body is covered in branch-like growths, making him look like a twisted combination of a human and a tree. Instead of having a normal body, he seems to be formed from tangled, overlapping roots, almost as if a tree’s roots were folded into the shape of a person.
This transformation gives him a look similar to Groot from the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, but much more frightening and monstrous. Like Groot, he can manipulate parts of his body as weapons, extending branches from his arms to attack and capture his enemies.
Changing Vecna’s appearance so significantly between the end of Stranger Things season 4 and season 5 was a bold move, but it’s made him seem even more monstrous and frightening as the show heads towards its conclusion.
