Kellie Pickler has prevented her in-laws from obtaining information through a legal order, as the dispute over her late husband Kyle Jacobs’ estate intensifies two years after his passing.
Kyle, a well-known country songwriter, tragically took his own life in February 2023 at the age of 49. He and his wife, now 39, had been married for almost 12 years.
Since Pickler and Kyle’s friend passed away, their parents, Reed and Sharon Jacobs, have been arguing with his family over who owns certain belongings that they claim he had before he died.
Pickler submitted a legal challenge against the individuals managing Kyle’s estate, after she decided not to be in charge of it herself.
The main disagreement revolves around a detailed ‘List of Assets’ created by Reed and Sharon, which outlines the items they tried to acquire with a legal request.
However, on Tuesday, a Tennessee judge ruled in favor of Pickler and canceled the subpoena, describing it as suspicious according to documents obtained by Us Weekly.

The documents aren’t easily shared copies that can be sent to lawyers or moved to the location specified in the subpoena. Instead, they consist of many physical items, some of which are large and heavy, according to the order.
Pickler also pointed out that shipping some of the requested firearms might violate the law.
The judge stated the court doesn’t understand what Reed and Sharon expected to happen with the subpoena.
Honestly, it seems like Reed and Sharon thought Pickler would just hand over what they asked for with the subpoena. Or, if not that, they probably figured they’d at least get a chance to look through everything and make a list of it. It felt like they were hoping for a pretty straightforward process.
Since Reed and Sharon hadn’t filed a formal complaint or request regarding Pickler, the judge determined they didn’t have the legal right to issue the subpoena in the estate case.
The court acknowledged that they might try to use this argument in a different case, one that originates from the complaint Pickler filed against them.
Toward the end of last year, news surfaced that Pickler and the Jacobs family were already involved in a lawsuit regarding Jacobs’ belongings.
Honestly, it just breaks my heart. Apparently, after their son tragically passed, Reed and Sharon went into Kellie Pickler’s house and took things – personal belongings, I’m sure – but they didn’t even have the decency to tell her what they took! Can you believe it? No list, no explanation… it’s just awful, and I feel so bad for Kellie having to deal with that on top of everything else.

She asked the court to compel them to identify the items.
Reed and Sharon inventoried Jacobs’ possessions, which included a significant gun collection – three rifles, seven pistols, a shotgun, a silencer, and a gun safe – along with items like watches, jewelry, baseball cards, musical instruments, his work laptop, and iPhone.
Pickler’s attorney argued that some items are not in her possession or have disputed ownership.
As a longtime follower of this case, I’m hearing that Reed and Sharon strongly disagree with what Pickler has been saying. They believe she’s actually breaking a legal order – a subpoena – by not giving back property that belongs to the estate. It’s a serious situation, and they’re clearly frustrated with her actions.
They stated they visited Pickler’s home only after she and her lawyers asked them to come, and that because her belongings were already separated, a detailed list wasn’t necessary.
The couple is also disagreeing about their prenuptial agreement, which details how their assets would be divided.
Reed and Sharon are asking the court to dismiss Pickler’s petition, citing the terms of their agreement.
Honestly, it’s just… infuriating. They tried to keep everything Kelly Pickler said under wraps! A judge actually signed an order to stop anyone from seeing what she shared in her deposition – the transcript and the video! Can you believe it? It’s like they were desperate to hide something, and it just makes me want to know even more what she said. I’m obsessed with finding out the truth!

Her lawyers argued such disclosure would cause undue embarrassment and burden.
The Jacobses disagreed with the court’s decision, arguing that the reasoning behind it wasn’t clearly explained, especially the mention of preventing ’embarrassment’.
In June 2024, Kellie Pickler sold the house she lived in with her husband, Kyle Jacobs, for $2.3 million. She had originally asked for almost $3 million for the property.
Pickler bought the 4,875-square-foot Tudor-style house, where Jacobs passed away, for $1.43 million in 2010.
Following the death of her husband, Jacobs, Pickler publicly spoke to People magazine in August 2023. She shared a valuable lesson he taught her: when facing a difficult situation and unsure of what to do, sometimes the best course of action is to simply pause and be present. She explained she was choosing to follow that advice now.
I’m so grateful to my family, friends, and everyone who has supported me. Thank you for all the kind letters, calls, and messages!
This has deeply moved me and is giving me strength during a very difficult time. I’m so grateful for all of your kind thoughts and prayers – I’m keeping all of you in mine as well.
