This follows reactions to Jenna’s seemingly unhappy and let-down expression at a press event earlier this month.

The actress celebrated with her co-stars and the show’s team, including Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán, who play her parents on screen, at a special event at Netflix’s Tudum theater in Los Angeles on November 9th.

Jenna briefly looked disheartened when Alfred Gough, the writer, executive producer, and creator of the show, complimented her work on the second season.

During his speech, Gough referenced an episode in which Jenna and Emma Myers swapped bodies.

A video from the film blog Rama’s Screen is circulating online, featuring a comment about a recent episode. The speaker praised the connection between the two actresses, noting they supported each other both on screen during a body swap storyline and behind the scenes while filming. He described the episode as remarkable.

Jenna consistently performed exceptionally well throughout the season, so I want to acknowledge her achievements, even if she doesn’t recognize them herself.

When Gough made his comment, earning applause from the crowd, Jenna subtly moved out of his line of sight.

Instead, she faced in a different direction while resting her chin on her fist.

Once he finished praising her, Jenna changed the subject and turned the attention to the people she worked with on Wednesday.

‘Actually, I’m very proud of the Irish crew stepping in,’ she said.

It’s challenging not being directly involved in the physical work – the daily setup, loading, and building of things based on last-minute requests. It’s definitely not a simple job.

Once a video of the incident appeared online, people on social media began to wonder if there was a disagreement between the actress and Gough.

On X, formerly Twitter, a user praised Jenna, saying she’s passionate about her job and dedicated to doing her best.

It’s really upsetting to see her so down. She’s understandably frustrated and disappointed with how those people have been behaving, and I completely agree with her reaction.

Someone else pointed out similar behavior, noting his slight head shake when discussing her and Emma, his avoidance of eye contact, and his quick shift to praising the crew – seemingly to deflect from what he’d just said.

‘I know she still has a bit of respect for them but the reaction still says a lot.’

They also explained that she likely isn’t intentionally trying to express her feelings. It seems she’s just acting out of frustration, almost without realizing it.

Someone else noticed her body language clearly showed disapproval – she turned away, didn’t make eye contact, and didn’t applaud. It was obvious she wasn’t impressed.

Someone else pointed out that he was showering her and Emma with compliments, but she didn’t even acknowledge him. Instead of thanking him or applauding, she only focused on praising the Irish crew, leading the observer to believe she was finished with him.

Jenna has previously spoken out on gruelling on-set conditions.

During a 2022 Q&A session in Hollywood for Netflix, Jenna described her experience filming the first season, saying she was severely sleep-deprived and incredibly stressed.

‘There’s so many FaceTime calls that my dad answered of me hysterically crying.’

In a 2023 interview on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast, she explained that she firmly asserted her opinions and made changes to the script for the first season.

Jenna explained that nothing her character did, or that she was asked to play, felt true to who the character was.

The situation with her being caught between two love interests didn’t add up. It was especially strange because she was stressing over a dress she had to wear to a dance, and she blurted out, “Oh my gosh, I love it!” Then she immediately regretted it, saying she couldn’t believe she’d said that and that she really hated the dress.

‘And I had to go, “No, there’s no way.”‘

Wednesday premiered on Netflix on November 16, 2022.

The show’s second season launched in August 2025, and it’s been renewed for a third season.

Gough previously revealed his plan for the upcoming new season.

We’re aiming to make Season 3 of Wednesday the best one yet, just like we do with every season,” he shared with Netflix’s Tudum.
